Mark - you might also want to note that the Hong Kong site has the 4.0 download for the 7290.
I used this version right before the holiday on my Cingular 7290.

it means that nextel disabled the 4.0 internet browser that rim provides in the 4.0 software... which kinda sucks, but kinda not, the internet browser in 4.0 is quite slow...

Cingular 6280 Code Works On T-Mobile 6230
I have tested and can confirm that the code for the Cingular 6280 works great on the T-Mobile 6230. Please use this information at your own risk.

The -10 -30 and -80 versions are generally interchangeable. (i.e 6230 with 6280).

Where's 4.0 for the 7290?
So why is the 7290 getting left out in the cold by AWS and Cingular here in the States? They've released 4.0 for everything BUT the 7290. Is there something drastically different (or evil) about the 7290? A little hesitant to try the Asian build of 4.0 - I know I could get away with an AWS build on my Cingular device (which is on our corporate AWS account - confusing, eh?).
WAH!

According to an e-mail I got today from T-Mobile, there are some bugs in the 4.0 code for the 7290 and 7100t which must be resolved before they release code.

Re: Where's 4.0 for the 7290?
I cannot answer your question but I have been running the HK code without a problem. Today I updated to 4.0.0.185 (1.8.0.117) which they have posted for the 7290.

Hmmm - wonder if the bugs are in the HK release? Wonder what they are? Wonder when they're going to relaease a fixed build? Wonder if I can stop using "wonder"?

How to upgrade 7290?
I have a 7290 v3.8.0.145 (according to About).
Downloaded the 7290 4.0 upgrade software from the HK site and went through the installation procedure. It made me restart my BB desktop. What do I do next to upgrade the handheld?
Thanks!

Here's the answer!
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader is the directory where the vendor.xml file is. if your worried about deleteing it just rename it, then restart blackberry desktop and everything should work again including the install of the 4.0 software.

The 7290 is dramatically different from the 7210 / 7230 / 7280 because of:
- Bluetooth
- BlackBerry Modem
- Two-step backlight instead of one-step backlight
- Twice the memory
- Quadband
The electronics in the 7290 is more noticeably different from the 7210 / 7230 / 7230 .....
That's why there's a separate firmware for the 7290 compared to the others.

Actually that's the case with the 72xx series, but 6210 and 6220 are one package, while 6230 and 6280 are another.

4.0 in a Verizon 7750
I've been using Telus 4.0 in a Verizon 7750 for a few weeks now, and have some observations. Overall, I like it. General speed is not improved (as far as I can tell), or not improved much. I've noticed the time to switch applications seems to be related to how much you have "open". I use the alt-tab (ctrl-esc) a lot to quickly switch between applications. If I escape out of ones I'm not really using it seems others, like Phone, launch quicker.
When plugging in the power (charger) lead, the light turns on. Convenient. However, if the power is plugged it while your on the phone, it's an instant disconnection! Very annoying.
My battery seems to last longer now. This last charge lasted 4 days with moderate e-mail and browser use, and occassional phone use. I like that!

missing passport keeper
I recently (3 weeks ago) downloaded the nextel 4.0 upgrade to my 7510 and was starting to use password keeper. Then my esc button starts failing so I buy the 7520. When I fire it up and do a restore on to the 7520 everything else is there but password keeper. I looked on the application loader on my bb desktop but no sign of password keeper. Anybody have some suggestions on what happen/what I can do to get it back?
Thanks!

Have you noticed any problems with screen clarity, voice volume, or speed of downloads, with the 4.0, as has been discussed in other posts?

Re: Where's 4.0 for the 7290?
I haven't noticed any difference in the things you mention. I would say they are the same if not a little better as compared to 3.8.
