Stuck in a call, cant view anything?

I was just on the phone and needed something from my memo pad, on my 8700 running telstra (spelling?) and i could not get out of the call to view anything in my berry unless i hung up.
i could of swore i was able to do this previously.
i tried all my butttons and nothing worked
hmm??

ALT + ESC wouldn't pull up the Ribbon? Then as already mentioned try a Cold Re-Boot (battrey out, wait 15 - 30 secs, battery in).

Do you have an IT policy on your BB. If you do, like I do, and the BB locks, you can't do anything. Sorta sucks, but no way around it.

reset did it. or i was just doing it wrong, i think it used to be alt, trackwheel click.

ALT Escape. Not ALT Trackwheel.
Always been that way. It's the Task Switcher (Ribbon).
