How to push an icon to handhelds that leads to an Intranet page?
Please Login to Remove!
Hi all,
If I want to push wirelessly an icon to all my BES users' handhelds and clicking this icon leads to an intranet web page, do I need to develop a program? Also, how is a typical setup on BES like? My BES includes 4.0 and 4.1 servers with MDS enabled. Can anybody show me the way to go about doing this? Thanks in advance...

What about setting the home page of the MDS browser to the intranet page you want? This can be set in the IT Policy.

I agree. I also would suggest to preset the 'Homepage' in the IT Policies. In addition you can suppress the Providers icon which gives you an additional safte aspect that users will use your predefined page.
In the Brower Policy Group you can set the
MDS Brower Title:That will then appear when you move in the Main Menu over the icon and gives your users a first hint and
Allow IBS Browser: Set it to 'False' and the Providers own icon will disappear.
Then you can set in the Device-Only Items the
Home Page Address to the address you would like your users to go.

I currently have my environment set this way, with the home page pointing to the intranet site. However, I would also like to create an icon pointing to that page. I have seen it done before, but it was probably a Java application :(

It is done via the Java Development Enviroment, allegedly it’s quite simple but it’s not something I have managed to do yet :(

hI.
I use the attached to push websites to BB's as an icon. You need to put both files inside the ZIP on a webserver. Webserver also needs PHP installing.
browse to the index.htm, enter details and it works!

Im upgrading to 4.1 next week so if it doesn't work, I will recode it to make it work next week!

If I remember correctly...
BROWSER-CHANNEL sends the URL as a web link and you can click on it on desktop to go to web site
BROWSER-MESSAGE sends the text of the page as an email
BROWSER-CONTENT - Can't remember
CHANNEL-DELETE will delete a previousy pushed BROWSER-CHANNEL

Does anything needed to be set in IT policy to allow this?
I'm getting an error messsage:
Error: 10060 A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

I don;t think so. If I remember correctly, I sometimes get an error like that.
If you send something to your own device, and see if it arrives, even though your getting that error.
Edit: In BES MDS Properties, general tab, is web server listen port set to 8080? If not try changing the port on the web page to the same as what this is set to in BES...

Not seen that one. Did you put the users full email address, user@domain in the box on the index.htm?

Just curious, but are your Intranet pages developed for viewing on mobile devices? i mean, do you guys have a wap version of your Intranet? Unfortunately, our Intranet is currently in frames and it doesn't format properly when viewed on the BB's browser.
