Default 8GB MicroSDHC Card - Memory has reduced!!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I have recently bought a 8GB Kingston microSDHC Card. When I inserted it in the phone and used my Desktop Manager to copy the contents, it wouldn't allow me to do so. In one of the posts there was a suggestion to format the Card. I have done that. Now I can access the Card through Desktop Manager. The probelm is that the capacity on the Card is only showing as 3.41 GB!! I know that FAT requires some memory and the entire 8 GB would not be available for storage. However this has reduced to half the capacity after formatting!!

Can anyone please help!!

Welcome to the forums.

It's all dependent on the OS you're running. You can find that by going to Options > About, it will be the 3rd line down.

Here are the sizes available for the corresponding OS:

Thanks JS. My Device Software version is 4.2.2.169. So I guess it can support only upto 4GB.

2 Questions then.

1. Is my card still having 8 GB Capacity? If I view the properties from my laptop (browsing to the drive and checking the properties) - the capacity displayed there is 3.4 GB as well.

2. Can I upgrade my device software to 4.3 and will that allow me to access the remaining capacity?

Upgrade to 4.5. You can find it and the instructions here:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...5-0-139-a.html

Once you've done that, then try formatting the card again.

Wirelessly posted (My Bold)

Try formatting the card as a NTFS. FAT limitation is 4GB
