a friend of mine uses his 3G Nokia to connect his laptop to the internet via bluetooth can I do this with my 8310? I know it's not 3G but it would be useful, I will be getting the Bold next month so I will have 3G then.

I'm not sure if the 8310 has that feature but my 8330 curve does. As long as your phone supports it and you add that option to your plan, if available, then you can tether. The bold will definitely be able to tether your lappie, especially in 3G.

yes you can, first you have to successfuly be able to sync via BT with Desktop manager. If you can do that, then add a modem connection in windows using a standard modem over bluetooth setup with the same dialing info as a USB connection and save it as a shortcut to your desktop. With both bluetooths on on the PC and 8310, click the shortcut and it will connect via BT and be online.

yup works with my bluetooth dongle.
