Default OS4.0 - Functional Changes, Fixed Issues and Known Issues

*Please note that some of these fixes are improvements over previous software version such as 3.7/3.8 while others are fixes from previous unannounced versions of 4.0 code only tested in the development lab

Incremental Features
xxx56256;xxx56457; AMR-Customers will experience improved call quality and fewer dropped calls with AMR technology

Phone
xxx56256;xxx56457; Previously, the handheld might have experienced distorted audio when making or receiving phone calls.
xxx56256;xxx56457; Previously, in the call forwarding options, if you selected the Forward Unanswered Calls option and typed a valid phone number to which calls should be forwarded, when you saved your changes, you returned to the phone options screen and your changes were notsaved.
xxx56256;xxx56457; Your handheld might not be able to make a phone call or send an SMS message if you are using an Axalto Simera 2 SIM card and under certain circumstances in the radio code, a particular instruction is sent to your handheld from your service provider.

Browser
xxx56256;xxx56457; If you are using a T-Mobile handheld, when you open a WAP push message on the handheld, the t-zones browser should be used instead of the BlackBerry Browser.

Miscellaneous
xxx56256;xxx56457; If you are using a BlackBerry 7100, the default settings for theBacklight Brightness and Backlight Timeout fields have been changed. The Backlight Brightness field is now set to 60% and the Backlight Timeout field is set 30 seconds. NOTE: this change will onlybe observed only when used in conjunction with an updated MEP (SIM Lock file)
xxx56256;xxx56457; Previously, if you received multiple reminders at one time, an error might have appeared.
xxx56256;xxx56457; When you lock your handheld, the alarm icon might appear, even though you do not have the alarm set.
xxx56256;xxx56457; Previously, if your desktop email mailbox was moved, an initial synchronization of your handheld data started, as expected. All of your handheld data was synchronized, except for your email settings and email filters.
xxx56256;xxx56457; You can change the SIM card MSISDN. However, if your service provider protects this field, the handheld still appears to write the changes to the SIM card.
xxx56256;xxx56457; Previously, if you had email folders on your handheld and you saved a search that searched the Inbox, if you backed up your handheld data and then later restored that backup, the conditions of yoursaved search were changed to search All Folders instead of the Inbox folder only
xxx56256;xxx56457; Previously, if you had content protection enabled on your handheld and you replied to an SMS message, the SMS message was sent, but a Java exception error appeared.
xxx56256;xxx56457; Previously, if you used a BlackBerry 7100 series, after downloading a MIDlet, if you played back a sound, the sound could not beheard.
xxx56256;xxx56457; The size of a Java application might not be checked before you download the JAR file. In addition, in very rare circumstances, Java files larger than 85 kB but smaller than 128 kB might fail after downloading.
xxx56256;xxx56457; If you load a web page in the WAP Browser and you attempt to dial a phone number on the page, an error might appear.
xxx56256;xxx56457; Previously, the handheld was requesting a refresh of the EF_HPLMN file on the SIM card when the SIM card was not ready. As a result,
the handheld received an error and did not refresh the EF_HPLMN timer properly.
xxx56256;xxx56457; Previously, if you attempted to send an SMS message in Australia, some smart dialing options were not used correctly, and the message
was not sent.
xxx56256;xxx56457; Previously, for a specific high-speed type of SIM card, occasionally, the handheld might have remained in the authentication procedure
and could not complete the attach.
xxx56256;xxx56457; The handheld uses the time zone that you set to calculate the network time instead of reporting the network time value along with offset
AS passed from the radio code.

Miscellaneous
The following issues are believed to be fixed in this software release, but have not been confirmed as closed:
xxx56256;xxx56457; If, while composing an email message, in the Add Cc field, you add a group from your address book, when you send the message, only the first contact from the group receives the message
xxx56256;xxx56457; In rare circumstances, when you upgrade your handheld and you activated your handheld while connected to the BlackBerry Router, some browser and phone databases might be marked as Incomplete, when in fact, they completed successfully.
xxx56256;xxx56457; When you attempt to find out the best image size of an image, the handheld displays "0x0" pixels.
xxx56256;xxx56457; If your system administrator applies an IT Policy to your handheld, the policy settings might not take effect.
xxx56256;xxx56457; If the Backlight flashing tag is used in a Java MIDlet, the backlight is turned off.
xxx56256;xxx56457; In rare circumstances, when you attempt to download a MIDlet, anerror might occur.
xxx56256;xxx56457; Trusted third-party certificates might not be implemented. As a result, a T-Mobile certified MIDlet might be rejected during installation.
xxx56256;xxx56457; The policy for network access is set to "Allow" for untrusted MIDlet applications.
xxx56256;xxx56457; An error might appear when you submit the last four digits of your SSN, even though the information that you submit is correct.
xxx56256;xxx56457; If you are using the SIM Toolkit in an area of limited wireless coverage, the handheld sends a location status event with the general result
of "Not Able to Proceed" instead of "Limited Service".
xxx56256;xxx56457; When the handheld is outside a sufficient wireless coverage area, the handheld does not send a location status event to the SIM card.
xxx56256;xxx56457; If you activate call barring when call forwarding for phone calls is also activated, the wrong status is displayed in the Call Barring status
menu.

Known Issues
xxx56256;xxx56457; If you are using the DOS FTP client or Cute FTP software to connect to the IP modem and upload a file, the handheld might be disconnected from the remote host. Impact: When using the handheld as a modem, you might not be able to load large files using FTP. Workaround: Use an alternative software package to connect to the modem.
xxx56256;xxx56457; On the Email Filters screen of the messages options, if you use the menu to move a filter higher or lower in the list, and then you edit a filter, when you press the Escape button to return to the list of filters, the filter that you moved returns to its original position in the list. Impact: Your filter position is not saved. Workaround: None.
xxx56256;xxx56457; You cannot view the list of folders available for email redirection if wireless email reconciliation is disabled. Impact: Even thought PIM synchronization is enabled for your handheld, without wireless email reconciliation enabled, the list of folders available for email redirection is not displayed. Workaround: To view the list of folders, enable wireless email reconciliation.
xxx56256;xxx56457; In rare circumstances, if you are using the S/MIME support package and you attempt to send a secure encrypted email message, a Java exception error might appear. Impact: In rare situations, you might not be able to send encrypted email messages using the S/MIME support package. Workaround: None.
xxx56256;xxx56457; When attempting to send a WAP Push message with the action set to Cache, the handheld does not receive the message. Impact: The handheld might not receive WAP Push messages when the action is set to Cache. Workaround: None.
xxx56256;xxx56457; If a MIDlet on your handheld contains more than one application, and you remove the MIDlet from your handheld, you are not informed that all the applications in the JAR file will be removed. Impact: You are not informed that all the applications in the JAR filewill be removed. Workaround: None.
xxx56256;xxx56457; If you are using a BlackBerry 7100, and a word containing an apostrophe is automatically added to the custom wordlist, you cannot edit that entry. Impact: When you attempt to edit the custom wordlist entry, a Java exception error appears and you return to the Home screen. Workaround: None.
xxx56256;xxx56457; When sending a concatenated SMS message, 152 characters are sent in a segment instead of 153. Impact: Instead of sending 153 characters in one SMS segment, 152 characters are sent. Workaround: None.
xxx56256;xxx56457; If, on the Date/Time screen, you select the Copy Network Time menu item, the incorrect time might be assigned temporarily. Impact: The incorrect time might be copied from the network. Workaround: If the time is incorrect, do not save your changes. Wait for the minutes value to increment and the handheld will correct the time. Alternatively, you can select the Request Time menu item.
xxx56256;xxx56457; If wireless calendar synchronization is enabled on your handheld, and your system administrator applies IT policy settings which disable wireless calendar synchronization, wireless calendar synchronization is still enabled. Impact: IT policy settings are not applied to your handheld correctly. Workaround: Your system administrator can disable wireless calendar synchronization for all users on your BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
xxx56256;xxx56457; If, when creating an appointment from your handheld, you set the End field to a date more than 24 days after it starts, an Appointment too long error message appears. Impact: You cannot create an appointment that ends more than 24 days after it starts. Workaround: None.
xxx56256;xxx56457; If you are using a BlackBerry 7100, and in the address book, memos list, or task list you press the Convenience key to open the browser, the browser does not open. Impact: You cannot use the Convenience key to open the browser from some applications. Workaround: None.
xxx56256;xxx56457; If you change a long ADN phone number saved in your SIM card phone book to a number that is shorter than 20 digits, the handheld does not delete the contents of the EXT1 record originally dedicated to the number. Impact: Not all information is deleted correctly when you change a long ADN phone number to a short ADN number in your SIM card phone book. Workaround: None.

Very interesting!

Was this written directly by T-Mobile, or by someone outside of T-Mobile?

And, oh my lord, the do seem to have fixed the annoying "BLEEP" sound that would occur before playing back an audible notification. I'm a little suspicious of the fix... when scrolling through the notifications in the Profiles applet, it seems like some of them just opt not to play. I hope that doesn't happen when a real message comes in. Will wait and see.

Here's another issue that happened to me today. While I was in a call (with bluetooth headset), my call was dropped when an email came in. Anybody else experience this?
