Ok so I think I understand, but please confirm for me.

BTW I have a Bold on ATT in the US.

Right now I do not have a data plan (like $30/mo. US), but I am planning to get one.

....but I can connect to WiFi at my house without the data plan, just search for WiFi and put in the WEP key, etc.? (I have not tried yet, but will do it when I get home today)

Can I also connect to free WiFi outside my home network/router without a data plan (like at a Starbucks, etc.)?

If I do get the Data Plan, that covers (gives me) Internet and E-mail over 3G, right?

I can still do WiFi, at home and on the road.

Big Question -- does WiFi count against my monthly data usage (the 5GB limit)??? I heard that a Bold can access WiFi without a SIM card, so I do not see how it could count toward the data usage (they can't even track you w/o the SIM) -- I am not going to take out my SIM to use WiFi obviously, but just making the point.

So if WiFi does NOT count toward the 5GB data cap, it is probably a good idea to turn off Data every time you use WiFi so that it won't accidently show up as usage under the device?

Sorry for these basic questions, but I have searched around a lot & there is nothing that covers all this in one spot.

Yes. But only web broswing through Hotspot Browser. No other data features will work.

Not if you use the Hotspot Browser.
When you have a data plan, and you're using BlackBerry data features over WiFi... then it will probably count.

It can. Again, using only the hotspot browser for web browsing. Nothing else. (Assuming no data plan here.)

Depends what you plan on using WiFi for, and whether you have a data plan or not.
