Hi,

We've made a GPS tracking program for BB series. We are new in BB development, so comments are very welcome !

Description:
-displays Elapsed time and Distance, Nr.of satellites, Current speed,
-displays Current time, Distance, avg. and max. speed, +/- Altitude, Geo.position, Course, Grade,
-background tracking,
-logs all data to the SD card,
-logs are transferred to the PC during sync or sent to the e-mail address,
-log are limited only with capaticy of the SD card,
-instand sending the current position,
-periodicly sending the log through the e-mail,
-different units (m, km, ft...),
-sound allerts for min./max speed.

- Extract the PTracking*.zip into a temporary location on your hard drive
- Use Application Loader to open PTracking.alx

If you want to install PTracking directly on your BlackBerry handheld, you can get PTracking BlackBerry OTA (Over The Air).

See the following instructions:

why would a user pay for this program over the free Nav4All, Livesearch, BBTracker, Google Maps, etc.

By charging, you really need a compelling reason to use it over others, and I don't see anything that would convince me or others

Yes, why? I heard a story that in other Universe is an OS called Linux, probably better than Windows.

1. Nav4All, Google Maps are different programs than PTracking. They shows maps and have a lot of possibilities and they are free to get it, but not to have it. I have a friend who travelled in other country, used Google Maps and paid over 300US$ to his operator for data transfer. Yes, I agree, stupid friend and not so stupid data plan! But, doesn't matter, Google Maps application is free!

Maybe, just maybe Google should start to push to mobile operators with argument that operators are making a big money on their account with transferring map images for !FREE! Google Maps. I think it is fair that half of that income come to Google. Probably Google have a similar opinion as me!?

YES, the main point is to get a free application, nevertheless that you pay everything through advertising, data transfer etc.

Belive me - There's no such thing as free lunch!

2.PTracking have some advantages and it is fully functional also as demo application, you pay it if you want. And if you find PTracking interesting, just send me a note and I send you a full, free version.

OK so when I first read this thread I didn't understand quite what it was, but now I do. One question and some suggestions:

Q: is the exported data in KML format, suitable for importing to Google Earth and others? Or is it a raw NMEA dump of the course travelled?

I might recommend you find a more compelling argument than the size of data download from the carrier; while many people *do* have this problem (Rogers comes to mind right away, heh) many people do *not* have this problem, we have unlimited data plans so it just doesn't matter. Ignoring this fact, J2MEMap is much further along and offers a lot more features at zero cost.

Basically, to ask a user for 18 Euros ($25 USD), your app should really have a lot more functionality than just recording a route - it needs more visual hoo-hah and whiz-bang to make it worth the $$$.

(all ideas/comments meant to be positive and help you make your app better, I'm not saying it's bad or whatever - just lending some ideas from other apps you might take a look at)

Thank you! We will insert more graphic, but for now we have some problems with graphic refreshing (it works with 8800, but it seems not with 8830 or Curve). Maybe because of new OS 4.2.2. Any ideas?

Today we've published a new PTracking version 1.1 - GPS Tracking software (tracking, speedOmeter, GPS data), which is combinated with speedOmeter. It is FREE. We still have issues with screen refreshing, but we are working hard to improve the application. Any comments?

Hi everybody,
I just downloaded Ptracking and Speedometer on my 8310 and the screen remains freezed on the welcome pages and nothing else happens....

I downloaded them OTA and I don't know what to do!
Any Idea?

Maybe you don't have TCP settings for APN?

GPSed requires server. I am not interested on sharing my location data with ANYONE. :P

Hmm. I'm using a BB 8900 OS .114 but I keep getting this screen:



Doesn't look like it's full screen, and it doesn't do anything else after that. Just hangs there. I can press the menu key and I'm given the option of closing or switching the application but that's about it.

Actually, you can use gps-ed without using their server, at least, I think so.

Just capture a track but then export it ON the device to a gpx (other?) file. I believe you can do this without logging to their site.

I just tried it and I do get the app running BUT I don't know how to get it to read my Bluetooth gps (Freedom 2000).

I got the gps running but I don't see where Ptrack uses it???? Have I missed something obvious.

I did notice at the very bottom of the screen shown above by others, that there was a line which I think said Press the SPACEBAR to run the program or something similar.
