Default Inputing comments inside addressbook phone fields

Please Login to Remove!

What are the allowed characters inside phone field?

I am syncing outlook with BB addressbook.

My phone fields in outlook are like.
business: 123 123 1234 # comments
business 2 : 123 123 1235 x 456 # comments

problem is ascii value of "# comments" is added as phone number suffix while dialing.

If i put WAIT sign (!) like this
123 123 1234 ! comments
it waits as usual but shows ascii value of "comments" where i want to see real text of "comments" not the ascii value here.

Any work around with this well known issue?

Welcome to the bbforums.

Don't put text comments in your phone number field. Use the User Fields below for comments.

I think what the OP is looking for is some way to "label" the phone numbers with something more meaningful than "work", "work 2", etc. Maybe something like "Miami" or "Chicago". I was able to do this on my previous phone, and miss this capability on the BB. Entering this information in the user fields may help if you're actually looking at the complete address book entry, but there are situations when using a BB where only numbers and/or labels are displayed, making the information in the user fields not very useful.

That said, I don't have a better answer, but my hope is that by clarifying the goal (if I have, that is), maybe someone can make another suggestion.

UncleMike got the point. I am simply looking for meaningful labeling inside phone fields.

I will be updating my outlook only and then send(sync) the contacts to bb addressbook. Outlook doesn't have user field that will be synced with bb's user field. I would rather use Outlook's "Note" for putting this labeling. I am more interested in updating outlook only because in future i may switch to windows mobile, android, symbian or may to a new comer. But all of them will be able to sync with Outlook rather than bb's address book. So why bother.

So I am guessing no real workaround for this issue yet.

I loved that about Nokia phones. Although it plays hob with Outlook and other phones, it's pretty cool to have editable/custom labels for numbers.

Multiple address book entries with the comment in the contact name is the best workaround I can come up with.

I can't think of any 3rd party apps that would address this.

Email [email address] as well.
