Is there any softwear that would allow me to type in "contact" info on my PC and then uplaoad it to my BB 8300, rather than typing the info directly into the address book using the phone key board? Like the palm softwear, where you can "sync" the info back and forth?

There's no equivalent to the Palm Desktop. You need to sync with a supported PIM. I'd recommend Outlook.
