I recently bought a new device from England. It has no simlock, but if I am putting a SIM-card inside I can see a message on the screen "SIM card error", that is appearing all the time.
The phone - it's interesting - is functioning properly.
I did a wipe with javaloader, uploaded new OS for this model and...

the message is still appearing...

Did you try removing the sim card and reinserting? Also, are you certain the BB is not locked? You can check by going to Options >Advanced Options >Sim card. In the sim card page type "MEPD" (no quotes) and see what it says next to "Network". If it says "Active" the phone is still locked to the original carrier.

I'd double check the status of the network lock -- especially if the SIM works in another phone.

if the simcard is not accepted then the set is locked!
model V from vodafone spain is allmost impossible to open!
from usa abt 20-50US$.look in ebay or in google!

if everything is ok it must show first gprs and small letters and in abt 1-2min.GPRS in big letters.this shows that the simcard is accepted!
then it works if the provider of the simcard sends sufficient data fror BB.
until 1month ago bb worked with prepaid amena spain nown they been bought from orange it works with contract simcard and for 15E more with bb tarif flatrate!
allmost free it is with TIM brasil prepaid but this works in brasil only.

Sim cards DO go bad... Have you tried replacing the sim card with a new one from your provider???

The most interesting thing in this device is, that the SIM-Card is working! So the phone can be used as well, but there appears on the screen the described info....
After typing MEPD the device writes in all categories "Unavailable".
I can't solve this problem, though.
