Default Storm Suretype vs Pearl Suretype

Please Login to Remove!

Tried a new Curve 8900 and didn't like it as much as my Pearl 2 mainly as I'm used to the suretype keyboard.

Since I'm not liking the Pearl Flip, wondering if anyone has gone from a Pearl to the Storm?

Since I'm on Tmobile, will need to get an unlocked one from ebay from Vodaphone, anyone has experiences to share will be greatly appreciated.

I've had 8800's for work and a Pearl for personal use before i got my storm. I'm a huge advocate of SureType, and at this point i could probably type with that faster than any of my friends with a full QWERTY. IMHO, SureType on the storm is awesome. The buttons are bigger so it leaves less room for fat fingering. Go to a Verizon store and test it out (make sure to close all the open apps haha). You'll shred that kb in no time.

I went from a Pearl to a Storm. The suretype is technically the same. The biggest issue I have with the storm revolves around getting the right key pressed. Suretype seems incredibly frustrating on the storm because it picks up the wrong key half the time. I usually end up just flipping the phone and using the full keypad. I got really good at typing on the pearl and that just makes the keypad on the storm more painful.

what OS are you running? i've heard typing errors with the old versions but typing on both portrait and landscape is fine on .103.

I also made the jump from the 8100 to the 9530. The suretype keyboard on the 9530 is essentially the same as on the 8100. It's a bit harder for me to type one-handed on the Storm, since it's a little wider than the Pearl. There's also more of a lag when clicking the "sym" or the "?!123" button, waiting for the secondary keypad to come up.

Honestly, I really do miss my Pearl. I could really fly on that keyboard. I'm sticking with the Storm because I'm cheap, and it's supplied by my company. Each has their pros/cons. Personally, I prefer the Pearl for the keyboard and the small size. I prefer the Storm for the huge screen and the full size headphone jack.

Good luck with your decision.

Wirelessly posted

I'm going to give the Storm a try and post experiences back here.

Make sure you don't have your other thumb hovering over another key when you're pressing one. I've discovered I can fake out my Storm by pressing over the DF key but putting my other thumb over M, for example. M will almost always win as the letter typed.
