Default blackberryforums.com / Phishing / no more fun

Please Login to Remove!

starting yesterday or today, both on my work and home computers, i have been wasting inordinate time (i mean 2 to 3 minutes to open every page) with blackberryforums.com

while i'm stalled, near the bottom of the page i see an exclamation point within a yellow field, while green increments / increments left to right, and if i hover there i see something like "Phishing Filter is checking this site"

i love this site but i can't spend so much time (again, 2 to 3 minutes) going from one page to another. i may have to give up on blackberryforums.com if i cannot find a solution

any ideas appreciated / thx

Moved to Site Suggestions, News & Problems.

Yes, it has been very slow the last couple of days. I've not seen the hover message like you, though. What are you using - IE, Firefox, etc.

Have you tried deleting your cookies?

Are you having the same problems on both PCs? What happens if you do delete the cookies (which I hate doing since it deletes all my pages with stored passwords.....)

sorry if i wasn't clear

first sentence in my post included: "both on my work and home computers"

i just don't have time to start trouble shooting this for the site. i have a problem that started today or yesterday on two different machines; you indicate it's slow for you too...

thanks for your thoughts. hopefully this can be resolved by the site's administrators

with large sites with loads of traffic, sometimes issues simply happen. new hardware is required, new RAID configurations are required, some data optimzation is required. that's just a fact of life. this website is hosted on multiple dedicated servers and the server-based issues are being addressed by Tom and the hosting facility.

i do want to clarify that this has NOTHING to do with phishing. that is simply a would-have-been-useful-two-years-ago default plugin found in IE7. the reason it's running for that period is because the website has not yet loaded. it scans the webpage, so without one, the plugin will continue running (for obvious reasons).

IMO the IE7 phishing filter slows down *all* web browsing. I turned it off. If I want to check a suspicious site, I can do it by clicking Tools >> Phishing Filter >> Check This Site. I've seen a lot of phishing sites (I do some phishing research) that IE7 did not detect, so I used the Report This Site feature.

perhaps, but i have a 5+Mbps connection (even faster at work) and it never before took 2 to 3 minutes to go from one from page to the next at blackberryforums.com until a couple of days ago (at least for me). the site seems quicker today and perhaps the problem has been resolved

(interestingly, my bank's online banking went down hard for several hours wednesday afternoon. it's a large bank and i've never seen them experience a problem that lasted so long. and the firm i work at, which is also fairly large, had some sort of meltdown that went on much of yesterday. weird timing, though perhaps no relationship at all)

PS, thx for your thoughts, daphne

When a site is having hardware and/or software issues with it's servers, you will experience slowness no matter what your connection speed. I browse from an 8Gbps connection to the internet, FWIW.

When it comes down to it, no one should use IE. Period.

You're welcome. I have a 10 Mbps connection and sometimes the pages load really slow here even without the phishing filter on. I mean really slow, like I have to get up and get something to drink from the kitchen while the page loads. I've had it hang IE also. But that's not all the time either.

Heh! I have a lot of friends who say that, but I happen to like IE best. I sometimes use Firefox though. I don't get spyware on my PC either because I'm really careful.

You do not have to erase your stored passwords to clear cookies (this is for IE7). Under Tools at the top right of the screen-click-Delete Browsing History-delete Cookies, files and History- do not click the bottom two- this leaves your prefilled forms alone.

I do this every day to keep things running smooth.

I noticed it has been slow lately for me as well and this morning (uk time) I was not able to get on at all, it was timing out within about 10 secs.
