Default BBM, e-mail and text massages

Hello

I've just acquired my first Blackberry, a Torch 9800 and am impressed with it. I am still a little unclear about possible roaming charges, am about to travel abroad and would be grateful for any help with the following.

The background is that I live in Spain, have a flat-rate NATIONAL ie Spanish monthly plan with Vodafone España (through which I get BIS and full Blackberry services), and am about to go to Italy and the US.

I know that I probably need to turn roaming off to keep costs down. However can I

a) send and receive BBMs either while roaming and or in a wi-fi hotspot without racking up data roaming charges?

b) send and receive e-mails for free in a wi-fi hotspot?

c) send and receive text messages (SMS in Spain) for free in a wi-fi hotspot?

d) use the native browser to surf the web for free in a wi-fi hotspot?

Many thanks.

SMS's are not data so they will not transmit over wi-fi; they will be charged the roaming rate for SMS's.

Thanks. So that means that SMSs are always charged (unless one has a flat rate deal for SMSs, which I don't).

Does that mean that BMMs and e-mails are data, and will therefore not be charged at the roaming rate, provided only that one is on a wi-fi network?

Yes, because they use the cellular network.

Yes, email's and BBM's are data, but I don't know whether you will be charged using a wi-fi network. I would be inclined to say no, but I'm not 100% on that.
