Here is my situation.

I bought my BlackBerry 8130 less than a month ago on a 3-year plan. In that short amount of time, it managed to accidentally fall, and since has water damage (from talking in the rain, i assume. there's no other explanation for it...I wasn't aware the device was so sensitive...)

ANYWAY, it worked fine after the fall for a few weeks until yesterday where I was on the phone and it randomly turned off and the red LED began to flash. It wouldn't turn back on! I stressed out.

I come home, take out the battery, let the phone sit for a while, put the battery back in...aaaand no luck. I try this process repeatedly until finally the phone shows an hourglass and turns back on! I was so relieved...

Then, it dies again, in the same way it did before with the flashing LED. I took the battery out again, blow dried my phone this time, let the phone and battery stand separately, re-assembled and it's working again...but I'm not sure for how long.



I'm curious if someone else had this problem? If so, is there an easy way to solve it? Or does the blinking eventually go away? Or will I have to repeat this process forever?

I fortunately can't say I have any experience with damp ones, but I sort of think if it keeps happening, it's the kind of thing you wish you had phone insurance for.

I have an 8130 with Bell (Canada) too. I've had mine a little over 3 months. My trackball just up and stopped clicking, and I'm getting a new handset from Bell Mobility b/c the unit is covered under a 1 yr warranty. Takes a little while (2 weeks) but I was able to work around my inconvenience using the 'enter' key.

Bring it in, say it's broken. Don't takl too much, or explain how. If they don't immediately offer to replace it under warranty, make a scene. Threaten to take your business elsewhere. It also does help if you've been a paying customer for a few years - but really, since number portability hit, they're all about customer retention.

Well scamming the carrier is never a good idea.
that being said, at least in the states the carrier's inspect the devices they get sent back. if they find that its not covered under warranty, they charge $300-$700 depending on device/carrier
