Default Getting emails through wifi

Please Login to Remove!

hi,

I'd like to know if a carrier can block access to BIS through wifi if not connected to their own router.
indeed on my 8820 I can't access bis through wifi except if I'm connected to my carrier's router. My carrier is Orange France.
thank you for answering.

I wouldn't think so! Router is a router does your router meet the specs required?

We currently have a similar problem on O2 in the UK with accessing the BIS over WiFi from anywhere. I'm told it may work over their Hot-Spots but haven't seen this for myself.
It is possible for a carrier to restrict access to their BIS server by looking at the source IP address and only allowing their own address's through.
So you could access the BIS if your were at one of their Hot-Spots but not from you home or work.
If you are connecting both of these routers to the same internet connection and one works and the other doesn't then it has to be router configuration.

It seems that it's the case here. We can access BIS by wifi only through their hotspot or their Livebox (Orange router) like UMA.
But there's something remaining i can't understand. When i got my new BB (I bought it to a jobmate) the bis wifi connection was ok and i could get my mails like this but no UMA which is normal because in France it's offered by Orange with their livebox.
I wiped out the device and then BIS through wifi had never worked again except through the Orange router.

That's interesting!
I have a good technical contact with O2 and we are currently trying to resolve it, your findings seems to prove the issue is somethin missing on the handset.
Have you tried to resend the service books?
Did you do a backup and restore as that also seems to muck things up

No problem, not sure if you have read this other thread ... http://www.blackberryforums.com/wifi...questions.html
It is where most of my discussions have taken place regarding this.
There's quite a nice write up in there on what happens to get connected.
We will get to the bottom of it, i can't sleep for it bugging me!

Just looking at one of your other posts and i noticed that you say you have the service books to use WiFi.
What is the service book name and what's in it?
From what i can see, the software will have some pre built service books, you get some more when you join the network and then your carrier will send more when you activate the BIS.
You can see this if you manually delete all your service books and then take the battery out.
On other matters i've had varying sucess wiping the device with RIMs tool but that's pretty major

Further reading elsewhere, and I have no means of checking this, states that there are certifcates on the sim, now i did hear of someone fixing there problem with a new sim so this is possible.
Also that when the device starts, the service books recieved are related to the software installed, this ties in with what has happened to you.
Have you tried the identical software that you had when it worked?

In the wifi service book there are several entries.
The first is called gprs entry which is highlighted. Rhe second one is the wifi one and the url is the one you gave in your previous post rcp.eu......
I ve tried to select the real wifi one i m told that the device has been recorded and nothing more happens.
