Default Can I change the number of emails on my Pearl?

Please Login to Remove!

I would like to know what determines the number of emails that my phone carries around. Does this affect free memory? And is it configurable? My gmail account has about 23,000 emails in the inbox. Does my Pearl limit what is there by date, or by a certain number of actual messages, or what?

Not sure if there is a limit or not, but device memory plays a big role. Email is one of the things that get deleted when memory begins to run low.

But then I don't know why you need to have 23000 email message on your handheld.

Go to Options>Staus and look at the number associated with "File Free". With 23,0000 e-mails on board, I'm guess that the number will be pretty small.

Remaining device memory.

Yup. Email is stored in device memory.

Nope. Not unless you consider management of device memory to be "configuration".

Every BB (regardless of model) can be set to retain messages forever or to automatically delete them after a certain number of days. What your Pearl does specifically depends on how you have it configured.

I certainly don't have, want or expect my 23,000 emails on my device - just, perhaps, the last few days or weeks worth. Right now I manually counted my emails and there are about 150. The oldest one is from Feb 20. Somehow the phone makes a decision about this, right?

If it grabbed, or tried to grab, all of my gmail account (no need to delete from that account, gmail gives you gigabytes of space in the cloud- I'm sure many have a lot more there than I do...) then my device memory would be sapped to zero right away, but that's not the case. I manage to have from 6 to 10 Mb free after a reset most of the time, so that can't be happening.

So my question remains, is this configurable somehow? Like an upper limit setting for device memory allocated for messages, in the way that there are limits on media allowed on the device memory set through the media app.

Takeshi said,
"Every BB (regardless of model) can be set to retain messages forever or to automatically delete them after a certain number of days. What your Pearl does specifically depends on how you have it configured." - where do I find this setting?

In messages>options>general options, at the very bottom, there is a setting "Keep Messages", which has been set to 30 days. Does this refer to specific types of messages, such as just PIN messages, or would this include the whole deal;- voicemails, email, PIN messages, SMS, MMS's,

Why would I have messages from Feb 20, now that it is April 14? That's not 30 days....

When was it set to 30 days? And has the device been restarted since then?

I got this phone on Feb 20th... I did not change this setting(30 days) until yesterday, to see what would happen. I did a battery pull for good measure, and two emails remain that are older than 15 days, both dated Feb 20.- one from Blackberry notifying me that my handheld has been registered with the wireless network, and one from Sprint re: welcome and setup instructions. So.... it looks like I can have just two weeks worth if I want, or any other amount, with the exception of these two "sticky" emails, which look like they want to stay no matter what I say. No problem. They were probably the only ones older than 30 days when I had that settiing. I wonder how they do that with emails?

Thanks for all your help. I love my Pearl.

What does that have to do with anything?

Maybe these emails have been "saved"...

If you go into your messages folder, call up menu and select "View Saved Messages" do those 2 appear?

No, there are no messages revealed by "view saved messages.
This is a mystery...

Seeing as they are carrier messages... What happens when you try and delete them?
