Hi Guys,

I have just got my first blackberry.(8900 curve) Everything is fine apart from not being able to open attachments from email. The option is there to open but regarless of attachment type the message "this attachment type can not be viewen on your device" comes up. I am using the desktop redirector from my out look account from exchange server.
Can anyone please help.

I think you found the problem. Desktop Redirector is an antique and most likely doesn't support any attachments...

is there any alternate ways of forwarding attachments? I work for a small company and we can not have a blackberry server. I have the only blackberry and its intended use was to be able to answer emails and so no, whilst on the move. However without being able to view any attachments, it is not that helpful. Any ideas would be really appreciated.
Thnx

Default Documents To Go.

Hi, Your 8900 should have come with Document To Go which will allow you to view documents, and you can also purchase the Premium
edition where you can edit documents.
Thanks!!

Hi Guys, thanks for the replies. I can view documents if i transfer them by cable using docs to go. My problem is incoming emails. No attachment will open, not jpegs, not word documents nothing. It says "this attachment cannot be viewed on this device" Is there a setting I have to change or is it just that desktop re-director will not allow me to have attachments.

Thanks in advance

If you use BIS for email, then you can add attachments to mail and they will be received on the BB.

As said above, Docs to Go gives you the ability to view and edit Word and Excel.

To view jpgs and image files, once the mail is open, highlight the attachment, download and open. If the image is imbedded, then once the mail is open, hit the menu key and select "Get images"

What other types do you need to access?

Okay this what you do.......
Reinstall the desktop manager without the redirector. As long as you use the redirector you will keep facing this problem.
Step tow...
As a result of disabling the redirector the emails will stop too. But fear not!
Now set up a pop/imap email account for your BB, like a yahoo or google. Dont use the free bb email address. I will exp later.
Once a pop/imap email is setup on your bb, then ask your IT guy to forward your exchange email to it.
Now the exchange email will forward into the pop email address which will be processed by the BB infrastructure and pushed onto your BB. You will start rec emails on the BB that way and also will be able to open, view attachments....word, excel, ppt & pdf.

Now you would be wondering what happens when I reply.Because everyone will see that I am replying from a yahoo/google email address. Well that can be fixed as well. If you log into your BIS account and edit the email address & in the "reply to" field put your exchange email address, in the "Your Name" field put your name.
Save and send service books.
That will solve that challenge. No one will ever know that you are replying from a pop/imap email address. The loop will be set and all will be fine.

Now, if you think you cannot do this, write back to me and we will figure out a way!
O yes the reason that you dont use the free bb email address is because it does not have the facility to be viewed via a PC and this being your work emails I presume you might wanna see them on the PC sometimes.....Phew!
