Default Abroad Issues

Please Login to Remove!

I'm going to travel abroad soon (Western Europe), and I'm taking my Tour (with Verizon). I need some advice on what to do abroad. I don't want to accrue a large bill, by kb usage or phone charges. I have a couple questions, but any advice would be welcome.

1. Is there an app to monitor/limit KB usage?
2. Does bbm use kb or accrue charge over seas?
3. What are some "danger" charges overseas that I need to prepare for somehow?

You will be roaming, so being charged roaming data charges, which are usually quite high.

I believe Verizon has an unlimited international data plan, but am not entirely sure about that. I would call them to find out. There is an application you can install, I think called Moni-monitor, or something like that, that will track data usage. Let me see if I can find the correct name.

EDIT: The app is called MiniMoni. Should be easy to find.

For voice, there isn't a lot you can do, other then keeping track of your phone calls.

All features -- I suspect that is not quite accurate. Phone and SMS will certainly work with that approach, but push email will not. You will also have a different phone number.

My preference has been to get the BB international data plan and have access, and then inform people that if they are going to call it had better be pretty darn important. With reasonable colleagues that works.

Hey Steven,

The best thing to do is to have your BB unlocked before you go. this way you can purchase a prepaid sim in whatever country you visit so your charges are less. Here is a 30% Discount for unlocking with us at Cell Phone Unlock Codes | UniquePhones. LYUZQJN us this code for the discount. UniquePhones gives a money back guarantee if we cannot unlock your phone.

Regards Lyle

Default I think I'll try thi

I think I'm going to try the international data plan, so as not to worry about per kb charges. Calls will be a bit of an irritation, but I can do most of my conversation over email, which by my understanding will not accrue charges given the data plan, and bbm. Does these seem to be a good option to the more experienced travelers out there?

Yes, I have used that frequently in Europe and parts of Asia and the Middle east. You can if you need to swap the SIM on an intermittent basis for calls, but I don't bother.
