Default "Device Not Found"

I've seen this problem posted before but I haven't yet found a solution that works.
I own a Blackberry 8310 and I'm using Windows XP.
When I plug phone into computer the computer detects the phone, the phone detects that it is plugged in, it is charging and it asks if I want to use mass storage mode.
The Device Manager from RIM sees that there is a Blackberry.
I even see a PIN # for the USB port.
However, the Desktop Manager doesn't recognize the phone. It's the only piece of this system that isn't cooperating. Any ideas?

What version of DM are you using?

Are you plugging the BB into a HUB or directly into the BB? BBs do not like HUBs for some reason.

Have you tried a battery pull on the BB?

I'm using DM 5.0 without mediamanager. And I'm plugging directly into the phone and directly into my usb port. I've tried it on my desktop computer, which runs Windows 7, and my laptop, which runs Windows XP. It's the same problem on both, except on the laptop I can do the options/connection and I see the USB with the PIN. I just can't make the program connect with it for some reason.

I would suggest downgrading your DM to version 4.7 to start. Choose it from the list here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22 Lots of folks report bugginess with 5.0, and a downgrade clears up a lot of it. Stick with the version without media manager too as that's just one more thing that drives folks nuts with issues.

On your BlackBerry, go into Options > Memory and ensure:

Media Card Support: On
Encryption Mode: None
Media Transfer Protocol (MTP): On
Mass Storage Mode Support: On
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected: Prompt

These are my settings on my Tour and I have no trouble connecting. Your 8310 may not have all these options, but match as many as you have.

Be aware that if you're on a BES system from work, an IT Policy may prevent local syncing. In that case, there's nothing for it but to not sync. Likewise, if you bought this BlackBerry used, it may have an old IT Policy on it from the previous user, and this policy would still be in effect, preventing you from syncing locally. Remove IT Policy - BlackBerryFAQ
