Hi everybody,

I'm sitting in front of a clients PC and try to sync his BB 8310 via USB with Outlook (Exchange mail account). I downloaded Desktopmanager from the BB site and installed it on the PC. But it seems that this software cannot sync with Outlook - it is looking for a PST file which of course does not exist if there is an Exchange account.

Several times I've read about "BES" now - I hope that I don't need to install a server software on the exchange server machine just to make a client synchronize it's BB. Only syncing via USB is in question!

Could someone please help and throw some light on that? I dont' believe in having to install a "Server" just for that little task, but I'm unsure...

Addendum:

The client just told me that he synchronized only his outlook calendar entries via usb cable, he does not use mail function with his BB. Does that gives somebody an idea how this could have been achieved by my predecessor??

I'm going to get fired if I suggest my clients to install a server software, while others just plug in their BB and get synchronized their calendar entries. And there is definitely no BES or anything else installed beside BB Desktop Manager. But I cannot figure out why and how it works with the other clients. Just installing DTM on that client I'm dealing with didn't make it.

Could it be that "Desktop redirector" has something to do with this phenomenon?

Redirector is poor at best. I don't even think RIM supports it any longer.

Most non-BES users (those on BIS) use Desktop Manager to sync contacts and calendar info with Outlook. If the user has BIS, email does not sync with the Outlook client on the desktop. Email is pushed directly from his/her email servers to the BB by RIM. Calendar, contacts, tasks and memos need to use Desktop Manager.

Hi Dubdub,

thanks for your comment. But how could this be that most users use DTM if DTM asks for a PST file if you try to set it up for Outlook? There is no PST file if you use Outlook in conjunction with Exchange? Did I miss something during install of DTM?
