I recently smashed my keypad and trackball. I replaced both myself. However, several buttons are not working. The power/end call button and the return button are not responding. They click when pushed but nothing happens. Can anyone diagnose what the problem may be?

Maybe a damaged/cracked main board? A jarring impact that smashes the screen could easily crack something else internally. Could also be an improper reconnection after parts replacement.

You could try disassembly/reassembly and see if that makes a connection. Otherwise it's time to replace the BB.

When you replacing the keypad and trackpad you should be very careful. There are ribbon on the trackpad. You probably have broken flex cable. You need a new trackpad. Can you disconnect one from other BB 9700 phone ? And then reinstall it on your phone.
