I am a noob!

I have a curve 8320 on tmobile. the sms and calls work. I don't have a data plan. I use wifi. i use my browser (which works fine after i changed a setting in options/advanced options/browser) and download the gmail app. after i open it, it says

"this program requires a working data CONNECTION. Please check your signal strength and connection settings and then restart the application."

wat do i do. if i can go on the internet from my browser then why can't i do it on this app.

You can get online through your browser because you are on wifi. However I believe the Gmail app is designed to work with a data plan.
