Hello BB Forums,

Does anyone know where to download a Chess App for the BB Pearl that's freeware? Preferably in an alx file, but jar is fine too.

Thanks

Did you try http://mobile.blackberry.com? They have chess for other devices, but not sure if they have it for the Pearl.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/104)

Has anyone here tried it? I had a superb FREE chess app on my win mobile phone. Seems difficult to find bb freeware.

Really?? When i go to mobile.blackberry.com and click on the free games link, I am prompted to agree to something before downloading. It does not say what I am downloading so I do not think it is wise to continue. Anyone else have any idea where I can get a good freeware chess game?

all you have to do is agree to the terms and services just like anything else you would download.

just click I Accept and you'll be fine

after that you'll see the free games available from mobile.blackberry.com available for download

I down loaded the chess game from magmic. It seems like a pretty good game with lots of options, and to my surprise I have not found any crippled features yet (are there any?). Too bad they tried to make the graphics so elaborate. I'd love to have a simple two tone board with simple, iconic, chessmen. "Fancy" chessmen on that small of a screen just makes for visual clutter.

Any other chess options out there?

I agree with your observation, and I note that it applies to some other Magmic software, such as their Solitaire games. For chess to be played on a small screen without ruining the eyes, the board should be simple and clean, not "pretty". The Medieval Chess game offers the user a choice of styles of pieces and board, but all are "busy" and, in a short time, tiring to look at.

At the moment, my best option has been correspondence chess with real people at the http://gameknot.com site, using the Opera Mini browser. It works fine. Using the BB browser, the board can be displayed okay, but you can't actually make moves, for some reason. I'm not really fond of playing chess against machines anyway, so for me the gameknot option is better.
