hello Ali. This was stated in my original thread here

xxx8226; downgraded to a previous version of the OS. This version only locked the keypad it didn't turn the screen off as well. with this version the top left button unlocked the keypad successfully. The other two problems however persisted

hence my opposition to the water damage argument.
Previous OS version was 5.0.0.862

I understand. Nowhere I could see did you mention the newer OS version though. It will be helpful for those who come along later. Maybe someone will confirm the same experience, or not.

I understand you opposition to the water damage argument, too, but you have to understand no one here knows you or knows your competence, and what you've reported is more consistent with liquid damage than it is an OS bug. As I say, I'm surprised.

If all is working the way you want now then great, more power to you.

cheers Ali fair enough comments. the alt-shift key problems fixed themselves. The downgrading of the OS fixed the lock/unlock problem. BUT I still can't start the blackberry without doing a battery pull or waiting for the alarm to go off.

So, the issue with the phone end button is still there... i.e. the button will turn the device off but not on?

You sure you haven't locked the keyboard prior to trying to use the button to power on the device?

I don't know exactly how the button works. I don't know how much of the function is hardware and how much is software. But one would think the other OS was wiped in the process of installing the older version, so one would think any software corruption would have been corrected. So, I still lean toward a fault with the button.

yes could be. I will deffo keep this thread updated. Hopefully version 6 will sort it but who knows. I can live with it at the mo cause I don't turn it off unless I am going to bed and my alarm turns it on the next day. Not ideal though
