You need to ensure that you have a BlackBerry data plan in order for your device to function properly.

You don't need a data plan to connect to your wifi router. Go to the icon that says Manage Connections, select Set Up WiFi Network. Go through the steps to see if your phone can find your network. You might have to try it several times. The first time I got my phone I wasn't able to connect to my home's router for 2 days (no idea why but it finally worked and has been working great ever since).

Ok. Thanks a lot . Im gonna keep trying to connect more times to see if it finally works. If doesnt, maybe call to the store and ask them about it. But the truth is they never mention anything about other plans or something. Thankss.!!!!

Wirelessly posted (Tmo's cheapest BB customer)

Check to see if you have wifi associated service books. Options>Advanced>Service Books.

Default Linksys?

Which Linksys model, software...?
Can you connect to wireless anywhere else?

I have a wrk54g v.1.1 that I can only connect to if all the security is OFF.
Although it says it is connected with security on, it does not work.
Others have said they have had probs with this model, also.
I connect on a Linksys-N, Datalink, and various unknown ones with no problems.
FWIW.

This is, or should be your data plan. Personal BIS plan usually runs about $30. Without it, you won't be able to browse the web with the BB browser, or set up email, or many other things.

So, bottom line...one can NOT connect to internet via wi-fi if one does not have some kind of BB data plan, correct? Can some one elaborate or confirm cause there's conflicting stories from above. (BTW I got Bold 9000)

I personally don't have data plan (used to, but too expensive now) and when i go to....

wi-fi connections>new>scan for networks>find my home connection>connect>put pre-shered key>connection succesful>finish...

...and I still dont have internet connection (wi-fi icon is gray, but supposedly ON)
So what do I do? any suggestions?

Some people have been able to use unsupported workarounds to get Internet access on WiFi-equipped BlackBerry devices without a BlackBerry data plan but this is not the correct or recommended way to access data services on the BlackBerry.

I don't have a data plan at the moment and I am able to use wifi with my device (8320). So you should be able as well even though you don't have a data plan.

Once you have finished connecting, does anything show up on your homescreen? Usually when you are connected to a wifi network you should see "[name of mobile service] - <name of wifi connection>."

Yea, on top middle portion of my home screen there's my home's routers connection, BUT wi-fi icon is still gray...and there's where that problem is. So how do I make wi-fi icon highlight? any suggestions?

Plus I jus changed channel on my router, but still no solution.

If the router name is showing up that means you are connected. Are you having issues using the browser?

Try an alternate browser like Opera Mini or Bolt. I find those browsers to be less troublesome when connecting to a wifi network.

Is the browser configuration set to internet/blackberry broswer, or hotspot broswer.
the icon will be grey because you don't connect to BIS through wi-fi cause you dont have a BB data plan.

open the broswer. it probs tells you something like 2cant browse etctec"
clickok (if its there) and click menu-go to. type an address and it should go to it.

Now I hope I don't get charged for using wi-fi, since I don't have data plan.

How were you able to resolve it -- change browser? You shouldn't be charged for wifi use.
