Carbon fiber case: who would be interested?
Please Login to Remove!
Who would be interested in a super-high quality, real carbon fiber case for the 8300? If there is enough interest I may make them and sell them through some different retailers. Price wise we are talking $70-120, depending on a few production variables. Case would look sort of like this, but much higher quality, and made out of carbon fiber:

I'd be interested in one for my 8830.
If you can do a one-off version, let me know how much you'd want for it.
Thanks,
Erik

If this works out we will do the entire 8xxx series.

Would carbon fiber interfere with the RF characteristics of the device. I would be interested, too, if it could be mounted and dismounted quickly.

Zero interference from the carbon fiber.

My firewalls here where I work dont let me access eBay - so I have a question. It appears that this would essentially be a carbon shell for the 8300, correct? For some reason I was thinking it would be a replacement housing for the OEM plastic (which would obviously require some assembly and technical knowhow).
THAT would be cool. Something that enhanced the impact resilience and scratch resistance while not increasing the overall size. Hmmm...anyone know of a company that makes something like this for any of the not-so-new blackberrys and might eventually design one for the curve? What about you, Mr Original Poster...any idea what something like that might cost as a one off?

Carbon fiber would be amazing! I am in for one for both my BB's, 8300 & 8800...if they are easily removeable...and don't add more than 1mm or so in exterior thickness to the phones.

also try and figure out a miracle solution for screen protection, one that can be as easily applied as vinyl skinds and equally protective yet clear..

I'd gladly purchase another 8300 (since returned mine) if something like that had surfaced for sale. The only request would be like stated before me, to make it as thin as possible. Carbon Fiber would look killer, and match some of the interior trim of my ride! Get on it, I'm 100% in!

I would pay a lot of money for carbon fiber HOUSING. I skin the phone and carry it naked, NOT a fan of hard cover cases.

I would also be interested in replacement housings made of custom materials. I dont really like the look of clip on cases but I would be willing to pay even more then you quoted for a replacement housing in carbon fiber or other materials.

I'm not looking to make aftermarket housing REPLACEMENTS, just cases. A replacement housing would be very technical to make, especially out of CF, and would be VERY expensive as a result. Sorry.

What kind of price would I be looking at for that? What materials do you work in? Feel free to respond by PM if you want to avoid further derailing this thread!

I imagine it would be over $200 depending on quantity I make. The carbon would need to the CNC machined to ensure a precise fit of all internal components, screws, etc. Not nearly as simple as a snap on case.
