I plan to buy the new blackberry 7100.

I would like to know if I can make a ppp connection through a gsm communication with this device and how I can set it up.

In fact, I have an old modem that I can set up to act with my home computer just as if I was my own ISP. My goal is to establish a 9600kb/s tcp/ip communication beetween the blackberry and my home computer at a normal cell phone call price.

This has been discussed over and over again. Try searching for using the BlackBerry as a modem and you should get quite a few users' instructions and testimonials on setting this up.

If I had found something in the discussions, I wouldn't have post a new message.

So, I need to explain my confusion:

1) I intend tu use blackberry for the communication. So I not only need to know if the blackberry can be a modem, I need to know if it handles parameters (for example phone number to call) and ppp procedure.

2) blackberry can be used as a gprs modem, but I want a gsm (csd_ not gprs) communication (because it's cheaper).

Hi Mark. Just joined the forum. I have just set up my 8700r (thanks for your instructions) and everything goes well until I try to connect. I get the message:
Error 732: Your computer and the remote computer could not agree on PPP control protocols. Any thoughts on where I can find a solution to this? Thanks very much. Glenn

After rebooting all is working well. No further errors.
