Default Newbie Question...

Please Login to Remove!

Hey, guys, I'm glad to be at the forums.

1) Today, I was about 2 minutes away from upgrading to the 8310 from the Pearl with AT&T when my buddy calls me and tells me he got the 8320 from T-Mobile (apparently the only carrier that has it), and, also, informs me what influenced him to go with the 8320 is the Wi-Fi. I knew this prior to that moment but then it hit me how much it could benefit to have that option as at work and on my college campus we have plenty of wi-fi all over the place but no way in hell am i switching to T-mobile, had them once and that was enough for a lifetime.

So, my question is; is it worth it to get a T-Mobile (and obtain unlock code for AT) or an unlocked 8320 and will it work fine without any peculiar little incidents where the screen will turn green because it's unlocked and running on my regular ATT SIM?

Thanks a lot, appreciate your knowledge and wisdom

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

I don't have personal experience, but from what I read, people are unlocking a GSM blackberry to use on another carrier all the time. Tmobile to AT&T and vice versa, particularly. Take that for what it's worth. I advise you ask AT&T as well as search here a little to put your mind at ease.

The only thing that won't work is UMA (voice over WiFi) as it is not supported by AT&T. You should have no problems running an 8320 on AT&T once you get the unlock code. You can not change the branding on it - upon startup it will always show T-Mobile.

I keep reading about removing the OS that comes with the phone and reinstalling it? Is this something that I have to consider doing, too? (don't LMAO at me if you can)

oh and should i look for an unlocked 8320 on ebay or just confidently buy a BRAND NEW one and unlock it myself?

You don't have to load a new OS on the device... you can, but you are not required to do so.

Look on our Buy Sell section here first, before eBay.

Hey, one more Q. I won't have any problem using the Wi-Fi feature with my AT&T SIM before I get my Data Plan added on?

You won't get ALL you applications to work on WiFi, without a Data Plan.

well, it is to me. Because I'm around Wi-Fi at almost all times. NYC is awesome for wi-fi.

It's a choice only you can make. I love the WiFi - I get voice and data coverage in area with no or minimal cell coverage.
