Default Blackberrys being sold on Ebay

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I was looking at buying a Blackberry Curve 8900 on Ebay and I had a few questions:
1) Ones that claim to be new and are priced at +/-$100, are these legit?
2) Used ones that are at prices ranging from $1-100 with good seller ratings-- can they be trusted?
I rarely buy anything from Ebay so I'm not really sure if this is the real thing.

Thanks.

If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry Curve 8320)

CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION

I always pass on ebay items that don't have the actual item in pictures!

I strongly suggest you read the FAQ article that David posted. Lots of good info there. Buying a used BB from any one is not an easy thing to do and is more complicated than buying an ordinary cell phone.

I've bought probably about a dozen phones on Ebay with varying levels of satisfaction.

1) Always go for items with pics, and from a seller with plenty of positive feedback

2) Make sure you are certain of the condition of the handset - if the seller doesn't give you a detailed description (and most won't), then don't be afraid to ask. On the flipside, bear in mind that you will pay more for a handset that's in better condition

3) Sellers have different means for "excellent condition", "refurb", etc, so be wary on what you're actually buying. Refurbs may well be practically as-new; equally you might find it just means 'pretty good condition'. Again, it comes down to asking if you're not sure. A good seller will provide additional information of you ask.

4) Look at past sales from the seller. Do they sell BBs a lot? If so you might find they bought a job lot from a business that was upgrading, etc, and if they're business devices they may not be in brilliant condition. From my experience buying from an individual usually works out better as they will potentially have looked after the device better.

5) You may find cheaper sellers won't offer the accessories and/or even a battery sometimes! Read the description thoroughly.

6) The wide variety in price will be due to some of the issues above, and also if the item is boxed, what provider it's locked to (some are more desirable than others), if it's brand new, if it's sealed, etc.

Bottom line: why does the price vary: because the item you're buying varies too.
