Is it possible to turn the LCD off programatically as a means of conserving battery power? For instance, can you make a "sleep" app which, when selected turns the screen off until the user presses a key.

Why would you want to do this (except for the 7100 series)... The BlackBerry LCD uses so little power, that I've noticed almost no difference in battery life for an unholstered BlackBerry. It's capable of keeping the LCD displaying graphics for over 100 hours nonstop, as long as the backlight is turned off.

There's a way to turn on/off the backlight programmatically now in 4.0 -- the BBLight app in BlackBerry PowerToys of the BerryFAQ link below, demonstrates this.
