Default IM issue.

Please Login to Remove!

Hey, I'm a really new user to Blackberrys. I just bought my first cellphone ever last night which happened to be a Curve 8530. It's a little tricky getting used to all this but I think I have the basics figured out. One thing that's been bugging me though is MSN IM. The Windows Messenger was pre installed on it and it works fine. The problem is even when I'm logged out of it on my phone and I can ever turn my phone completely off if I sign in Windows Messenger on my computer it auto signs out saying "logged on in another location"

My friend has this problem sometimes with her iPhone too but not nearly as much. I can't even log on to MSN on my computer for a second before it logs me out with that message. How can I fix this?

Thanks.

I should also add that my plan just allows me to use IM clients, Facebook, Twitter, BBM. No browsing or email so I can't go to meebo or something to get on MSN there.

Are you really signing out of the messenger app on the blackberry, or just closing it?

I've been searching....don't use the app, myself.... finding stuff, but can't tell if it is timely info, or out of date, or even relevant to your situation.

In the meantime, try a hard reset if you haven't already. That is, with the power on, remove the battery for at least 30 seconds. While the battery is out, try to login on the computer. If still logged in, then try again to log off on the blackberry after the BlackBerry boots.

Thanks, my MSN on my computer is currently working which I'm pretty surprised about but the phone's been off for like twelve hours now. But I'll give that a try. Taking the battery out while the power is on won't damage it?

No. Removing the battery while powered on is the a very common fix for many blackberry ills

The batter pull with the power on is the way you do a hard reset on a BlackBerry. See the FAQ at blackberryfaq.com for background and historical info. At any rate, it isn't going to hurt and you won't lose data.

FYI, in the future, when the BlackBerry is doing funny stuff, try a soft reset by holding alt, right caps, and del keys at the same time. That will reboot the device. If it doesn't fix the problem, try a double soft reset by doing another soft reset, then alt-right caps-del again just as the BlackBerry begins to boot. If that doesn't fix things, then do the hard reset. With time you'll develop an intuition about what which you need to do, and you'll seldom do battery pulls.
