Default BIS - Not receiving email in folders?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

Brand new to BB, and BBF. Awesome resource.

Question for the pro's regarding BIS and whether BIS only works for email in the outlook "Inbox" or if it works on email routed to "folders".

I was able to setup my work email on the BB Bold with BIS on the first try - just needed the email addy and password. Simple. Loved it. Email came in right away, and I could compose w/o any problems. Option to delete from handheld or mailbox. Very cool.

Then I noticed that email coming to me that was routed to an outlook folder due to "user rules" (i.e. all email from [email address] goes to folder "joe") was not coming to BB. Only those emails that were not impacted by rules were getting to the BB.

Is that normal for BIS service? Does it work only on the inbox and not on any subfolders?

I should mention that I am using BIS for my work email since work does not have BES. Work does have email access via outlook web as well, but I did not setup the BB using that method. All I did for setup was login to BIS, add the email address and password and it was validated.

Is there a way that I can get BIS to work with email that ends up in Outlook subfolders?

THANKS!

-stoney

I don't think there is a way to get BIS to handle folders.

One of the few things RIM didn't do well.

bummer...

just so i am clear: when an incoming email hits my outlook and a rule sends it to "Joe" folder...i'm not going to get that email on my BB.

i would need to delete the rule that sends joe's email to the joe folder. basically have everything stay in the "inbox". right?

ouch.

not ready to give up on the BB yet...but this is definitely putting a damper on my "new purchase buzz"

Look into installing the mail app for your email (yahoo go, gmail...)

mail app? assume you mean a 3rd party app (free or $), like Viigo.

since i'm focusing on my work email (ex: billatworkdotcom)...is there a basic "mail app" for outlook/exchange? my work email isn't handled by yahoo or gmail.

though i do have personal email setup on my BB bold as well, using BIS. so you've got me intrigued on the mailapps for Yahoo and Gmail (my personal email accts). so thanks for that!!

I was not talking about Viigo and don't know of an app to handle [email address], sorry.

ah, sorry clevebb, i might not have been communicating clearly...

all i meant was that my work email is not yahoo or gmail or msn (one of the basic web emails).

so i was asking if there was a 3rd party outlook or exchange app for the BB. but since that basically defeats the purpose of having BB vs having a Win Mobile phone, my guess is no, which i think is what you are telling me.

A couple of options that might make you a bit happier:

1. Change your mail rule from "Move" to "Copy."

The messages will remain available to you on your BB, and will be sorted in folders as you desire. You can delete the messages on your BB and allow it to delete them from the inbox as well, while the copies in the folders will remain unless you delete them in their folders. Depending on how you want things to work, this may be good or bad news.

2. Turn your rules off, and run them "manually" once a week (or at some other interval).

On a regular basis, run your rules (use the "Run Rules Now" option in the Rules dialog) to clear things out from the inbox to where you want in your Outlook folders.

thanks for the input redflea. both are excellent suggestions.

one thing i've noticed, in the "iphone vs bb" debate is that the iphone wins here...it'll map all your folders automatically through imap/pop.

oh well.
