Default Windows 7 and Blackberry Manager 4.1.6

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Has anyone had any luck installing the BES Blackberry Manager 4.1.6 on Windows 7 without having to use XP Mode??
I have tried installing it as Win XP with compatibility mode in Windows 7 but it still wont install. Or is their a version of the BES Manager that is compatible with Windows 7 ?

Thanks

Thanks Greenzipper,

I'm referring to the Blackberry Enterprise Server - Blackberry Manager that adminstrators install to remotely manager the blackberry's connected to the enterprise server.

Thanks

You're trying to install the actual BES on a Windows 7 box?

I could never get this to work in Vista either, I just use VM's of XP on my helpdesk folks computers so they can still have access to Blackberry Manager. It's also one of the reasons I'm dragging my feet going to 5, I hate having the only way to manage BES for the most part is to remote into it.

Why you all so "iron-tooth" (aka xxx38081;xxx40831; i.e. stubborn in Chinese)? Remote BlackBerry Manager supported OS are as follow as per installation guide for latest BES 4.1 SP7:-

System requirements: BlackBerry Manager

The following system requirements apply when installing the BlackBerry® Manager on a computer separate from the BlackBerry®Enterprise Server.

Operating system

Any of the following operating systems:

xxx8226; Windows® 2000 SP4 (Server, Advanced Server, or Professional)
xxx8226; Windows Server® 2003 or later
xxx8226; Windows Server 2003 or later (64-bit)
xxx8226; Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2
xxx8226; Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 (64-bit)
xxx8226; Windows® XP Professional SP2

Why not use XPMode in Windows 7. Essentially a Virtual PC located on your Win7 machine, plus when installing Blackberry Manager, you can create a shortcut in Win7 that will automatically start BBM in XP-mode.

BB Manager does not work on anything higher that WinXP, been searching for ages for a way to get it to work, but no luck.

PS! If RIM is reading this... BLackberry Manager is MUCH better than the Administration console in BESv5...there, got it off my chest, onwards and upwards.

I totally agree with Brenda42!

Can we have an install that could allow us to setup a remote BlackBerry Manager version 5.0, please?

Here is a Way. I copied this from someother FORUM............................................. ............................................

I got it to work, although by a hack. It appeared that the setup program was dying because of a fault in the dll ntdll.dll.

For me I did the following.

Installed 4.1.0 and rebooted.

Exited out of the Configure screen

Went to the BES SP6 uncompressed directory. (C:\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1.6)

Ran msiexec /a Blackberry Enterprise Server.msi

Admin installed the package to C:\SP6

Opened up two windows explorer windows pointing to

* C:\SP6
* C:\Program Files (x86)\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server

Copy the following from SP6 to the Program Files folder as is.

* BBMgr
* ConfigUtil
* Docs
* Help
* BESProfile.exe
* readme.txt

in the Program Files folder open BBMgr\Server\ then copy over from SP6 to this folder

* ServerAuthentication8.dll
* ClientAuthentication8.dll

Make duplicates of these files, delete ServerAuthentication.dll and ClientAuthentication.dll and rename your copies to these names... so ServerAuthentication8 - Copy.dll becomes ServerAuthentication.dll and so forth.

Now copy over everything from SP6\Common to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\

Once you've done that, re-run the setup.exe from 4.1.0, configure your database and away you go.

It's a hack, but it works... so far.

I must state that this is just a work-around. We will all have to wait for 'official support' for BlackBerry Manager in Vista. Hopefully this will arrive in 4.1.7.
