Default Verizon 8330 vs Verizon Treo 700P

Please Login to Remove!

I currently have a Treo 700P running on Verizon. I am really wanting to upgrade into a Blackberry 8330. I'm trying to find out which solution you all think is the most efficient, most cost effective and provides the most pleasant user experience. I'd love to hear from all you previous Treo users out there, too. Just for argument sake, I'll play devil's advocate.

My Treo runs on Verizon's EVDO Rev-0 just like the 8330. It has true threaded SMS unlike the 8330. It will work as good or better using GPS with a BT Puck something like Garmin Mobile vs VZ Nav on the 8330. It's expandable memory wise to 2GB (Poss 4GB). It also has a slew of media programs for music and video available and apps like Agendus and many many great email apps. What I'm really sick of is loading up all sorts of 3rd party apps to make it into the phone it should have been to begin with.

So, here's my question. What is the BB experience like on the Verizon 8330? How well does it play video? music? How is the web browing? How hard is it to let go of Threaded SMS? I guess I'm wondering if trying to upgrade my Treo 700P is like trying to bring an older car up to the standards of a modern one. Please, advice anyone? Keep in mind I'm not a business man but a tech savvy consumer who uses SMS heavily and would like email capability and web on the go. I'd like to get a BB 8330, but am wondering how much I'll miss my Treo. Help!

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry Curve 4.6.0.62)

No need for app for email.
Threaded sms is availabe.
Can use up to 8gb card.
Can use the puck on the curve too.
I think it owns the treo in every possible way.

I have been a palm user for years - recently got the centro which I thought was going to make me happy - then I went with the Curve - and I will never go back.

The big thing is the BB is stable and you won't see random reboots or data loss for no apparent reason, as you do on the Palm and WM devices.

i went on VZW 600p>650p>700p>700WX and now 8330 still on VZW. and i wont ever go back. i do miss a few things about the treo but overall and by far the 8330 is > the treo's.

ya wont be using a puck on the BB but the VZ navigator rocks. been using it daily for 2 weeks now and love it.

I have not loaded one single app for anything yet as there is no need to. it flat out works and works well.

+1 As a long-time former Palm Treo user, I can say that BlackBerry > Treo

Default My Blackberry 8330 Rocks!!!

Just took the plunge today! I've have my Verizon 8330 now for a few hours and can only saw one thing....WOW! I have to totally agree with the other users on there that BB owns TREO in every way (except threaded SMS which I miss already.....). Freaking fast, soooo easy to get around, and I haven't even looked at the manual much! Thanks guys for helping me decide...so glad I did!

There are also a lot of "little" things that I like better. If I dialed my voicemail with the treo with the speakerphone on and had to silence it quickly I had to wait until all numbers, pauses and password finished. With the BB I can turn speakerphone on and off at any time. Thought I would miss the touchscreen but I only ever tried to press something on the screen once to select it (and reached for the stylus once that wasn't there). I was a treo user for 3 or 4 years and will never go back. Plus I never use a holster and this fits in my pocket so much better.

Default THANKS SO MUCH, looking to change to blackberry

Thanks so much, I didnt trust the sales man that told me on the phone that in minutes my etrade free phone deal could be gone.

BlackBerry Curve 8310 Red (Multimedia Phone)

Specific questions that were not clear:
Does anyone know if all this is true?

He said there IS a video record capability.

he said the curve is better than the pearl (i'm looking at the etrade mobile blackberry with free stocks stuff...free phone and 2 year contract)

He said there IS way to record all conversations and also conferences in the room (the treo 700p i had to purchase 20 software for that)

He said mobile etrade is free for however long you use the phone...

I wanted a number similar to mine and my family, but I thought it was time to change my phone number as would rather get less calls...it sounded like it may not happen and he kept trying to get me just to keep my number from my sprint treo 700p. Is it really that hard to get something like starting with 224 402 and then some?

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR INPUT, my contract with sprint is up, I use my pda a lot (treo 700 p said to upgrade and i lost more than half my records and contacts and then when i synched, it lost them on my computer, too!) That really is unforgiveable, I do not know if it was sprint problem (virus?) or palm problem.
