I'm not really gadget freaky - oh well, yes I am.
Self employed, small businessman in construction. I had Palms for years, culminating in the Treo 650.
I loved the abundance of software. I loved having the memory cards. I loved having the ability to import .jpgs into my camera and have pictures of my kids I could show off without having to buy another program. I loved being able to attach those .jpgs to a telephone number so I could visualize who was calling. I loved the Dataviz program that came with the device so I could work in MS Word, run an MS Excel spreadsheet.
I hate having to use Outlook to synch my 8700r. I don't have a data plan and I hate having to need one to download. I don't email since I have enough on my home computer.
Why did I get a BB? It has a rock solid telephone in combination with the on-line calender and telephone book.

Any of you want to unload one of those extra Treo 650's that's just lying around collecting dust?

Over the last couple years I've been back and forth between a Treo and a BB, a couple jobs ago, I was switching back and forth between them and finally settled on the BB because since I was the Security Officer, I needed e-mail right away. Then after getting laid off, I went back to the treo and actually landed the job that I have now because of the Treo, my boss had one and after the interview, I sent him my thank you letter while in the lobby. I didn't make it to my car and he was calling me with the offer.

Now after being there for 7 months, I got tired of the treo and rebooting more then windows does so I bought a 7250 off ebay, setup a BES Express server at work and couldn't be happier. It's more personal then anything else but since I also get my e-mail on it from work, I'm happier and am very happy with a stable device. I can't see going back to a Treo again.

Treo 650 for 3 years....LOVED the PROMISE of the phone...hate the actual usage. If Palm delivered what the capabilities are supposed to be, without freezing, lockups, and updates to their OS, it would be great. The Treo is very "2004"....it had great promise 3 or 4 years ago, but they basically have not updated it at all (even adding windows and deleting the antenna).

My 650 constantly lags....I think I've dialed a number but it doesn't dial, I hit hangup only to see it hasn't hung up, and yes, it reboots at least once a week. In two weeks I am getting a 8703e and couldn't be happier as I used to have a 7100 series and was never thinking about what the phone was doing. You Treo owners know what I mean....is my phone on? is my phone rebooting? did my email work and stop a call? is it working today right?????

With BB you just don't have these worrys...ever.

I had to add my 2 cents.

I have a Treo 650 and finally gave up on it. Now, I'm using a BB 8703e. I love it!

My Treo 650 was awful and froze or reset constantly. Just when I thought I got it sorted, the instability would creep back into the picture. The Blackberries I used were wonderfully stable, freezing once or twice a year, and only then when I tried some third-party app that wasn't ready for prime time. Now, however, I'm using a Treo 680 (double the 650's internal memory, updated OS) and it's rock solid and stable. No resets in 3 months of ownership. I'm hanging onto my Pearl in case I get the urge to switch back. I will probably get an 8800 when T-Mobile has them with camera and WiFi, but until then my Treo 680 is surprisingly nice!

Default thats me

This is my first post..... By the way I love this site and everyone envolved. You all make owning a bb just that much better!! As far as this thread goes I have owned both and enjoyed both. By far its bb to the rescue! The treos were fun and wonderful for the wife that never uses her phone. I have since sold all treos and have my 7105 and 8700 but I am getting into a nutty phase were I feel the need to project SOOOO if you have a sim gprs gsm treo, The crappier the better give me a call 417-619-9762 I'll buy.(FYI) I plan on making a hybred. Thanks Matt

Default How many own both a BB & Treo

I just switched to the BB 8703 after being a Treo user since the very first 300and at the same time, dogging out the BB for not having a touchscreen, not being able to be used as a modem, etc. etc.

It has been 3 days and I have had crow for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I absolutely love my BB. The only reason why I carry both is because my calendar and addresses did not synch from Outlook. As soon as ALL of my info is in my BB, the Treo is going to a friend who needs more than a flip phone with a calendar but not as much as your all out Treo/BB user.

I can honestly say I don't think I would ever go back to Palm. I too am a gadget fanatic. However, if and when I switch from a BB, it would be for the iPod phone and that would be 3 to 4 generations from now (2008/09) once they get all the bugs out. In my mind it would be an upgrade from my video iPod not an upgrade from my BB.

Default I Gave Up on the Treo

I had the Treo 600 for almost three years, and it was a good and stable business tool. Last October, I retired it, and bought a Treo 650, only because of the Bluetooth function, which the 600 did not offer. To make a long litany of despair short, I had seven (7) Treos between October 23 and February 26 - each of them either totally crapped out, or exhibited completely unacceptable quirks that affected my business communications. Cingular, my carrier, was great - each time I called to complain, I received a new Treo at my door the next morning. After the fifth 650, the Cingular representative offered a free upgrade to the 750...the first one I had would not synch with my PC, and the second one would inexplicably turn itself off, would not connect with my Bluetooth handsfree car kit, and couldn't seem to deliver my IMAP e-mails.

Sure, the 750 is a cool phone, with a beautiful interface, and some functions that I really, really liked (the contacts and calendar worked well) - I know that I'm still in my honeymoon period with the BB 8700c, but so far, I would definitely not trade it for the Treo.....

hmm i know this is an old thread but i figured why not...

I do own both a BB 7250 and a Treo 650...I'm pretty satisfied with my Treo even though i've had my fair share of problems with it...everything has problems at some point...the BB 7250 isn't a bad phone either, it's just in my eyes such a downgrade from my 650...i figure i'll wait a little longer and get my hands on a new BB and probably won't have much of a problem migrating over...the camera and mp3 player are a nice feature on my treo, and thats one thing holding me back...it'll be interesting to see what Palm does aswell with the new phones, especially since they are working on a linux phone but i do see a bright future in the BB's and many improvements on the way for them...

but either way, it's all about what someone wants in a phone...

I've had a Treo 600 (VZW), 650 (Cingular), BB 7290 (Cingular), 8700c (Cingular), 7100g (Cingular), Treo 700wx (VZW), and an 8703e (VZW)...and a Sidekick or three.

While I LOVE the increased functionality of the 700wx (Slingbox, good browser, fun factor, camera, etc), the instant email of the BlackBerry always keeps me coming back. Out of all I've owned, the Cingular Treo 650 was the worst--shut itself off too often.

I'm happy with my 8703e, but looking forward to Verizon getting the Pearl. I think the Pearl is the perfect phone for me.
