Default Expected battery life?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I've only been getting less than 2 days out of a full charge. I wouldn't consider myself a heavy user; no hour of browsing, no video or music; just periodic phone calls, emails, and sms.

I know battery life is dependant on usage, but is 1-2 days typical with the 8100? Is it simply that I'm used to the 5-7 day batter of my old Treo (which of course had a larger battery and no constant push-email).

Thanks.

If I leave mine on 24/7 I get about two days max. I usually charge mine daily.

I get 3-4 days. I use standby much of the day, shut 'er down at night. Maybe 20 emails, 5-10 brief calls, 10-15 sms, a few minutes browsing. I'm not a heavy user at all, but I think the battery is very good.

I usually charge mine every night but I can easily go 2 days with a full charge. I usually do my fair share of browsing (over 1 hr). I use google talk occasionally as well. I think battery life is great although my 8700 was better at it but the pearl has more features and it's smaller.

I can easily go 2 to 2 1/2 days with a full charge. I charge mine every 2 days. It was less when I first got the phone, but I guess the battery is broken in now. Heavyish internet use and moderate email and phone use.

Ok, it sounds like around 2 days is usual for light-moderate usage. Mine stays in a sleep holster, I guess I was expecting it to last a bit longer. I suppose with the small battery size and the email connection it's somewhat understandable.

Thanks.

Why don't you charge it when you sleep?

I plug mine in to charge every night before I go to bed. I'm in that habit and have done so with every phone/device i've ever had.

By the end of an average day i'm down to about 30-45% of battery remaining.

I do a lot of voice and SMS and a fair bit of browsing/email.

It's not that I can't charge it nightly, I was simply wondering whether 1-2 days was typical. Periodically this could be an issue for me if I am traveling, working day through late night, and have a lot of calls and emails; by evening I might not have much battery left.

I like the 8100, I'm just used to my freebie Nokia candybar and Treo650 going almost a week without a charge. Understandably, the 8100 has a smaller battery and uses its radio more.

I switched from a Treo 650 to the 8100. I had push email on the Treo and got 1 day out of the battery. The pearl is actually better than the treo at what it does. I can get twoi days out of the pearl.

24/7 power on and nightly recharge.
I can't put mine down, 40-50% battery usage. I use the browser, GoogleTalk, BBM, and email.

Talking Telefonica OS is the answer

I had been running the O2 operating system for about a month before taking the plunge and installing the Telefonica OS (.69) and I had the same battery woes that you all are experiencing. By the end of a typical day, I had ~30% battery life remaining at best. I went through the weekend with the Telefonica OS and woke up today to a 75% battery after two days of use. I typically have light usage on the weekends, but I'd say that my battery lasts at least 50% longer with the new OS. Give it a try!

Same here with the upgrade to .67. My battery life is so much better.

Just for comparison, my .67 Pearl is getting about the same 2days usage if lucky. I usually have Yahoo messenger running (but no activity) and get emails, but don't check it that often.

The only thing that may be an additional driver is that my signal strength at my house is marginal, and in the past that has meant my phones would be seeking signal sporadically. This of course drains power quite nicely. However I haven't noticed it yet w/ the Pearl, unless it's just not as quick to report a lost signal as the 8700 was; alternately maybe the reception is just better.

Either way, I too am disappointed w/ the battery life vs 8700 but I do like the little guy

Shoot....I just checked my battery life and it's still at 100%. It's been off the charger since 7:30 this morning. I haven't started using it as of yet though.....just checking simple stuff.
