Default 8830 (WE) + google maps

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys,

I'm looking for help trying to figure out why my BB 8830 world edition can't find "My location" in google maps. The maps display fine, and i can get directions to places but it cannot find my location when i ask it to

I went to options-> advanced options->GPS
it said GPS data source = none and i cannot change that as there are no options.

I'm using google maps version 2.2.0 if that means anything. I'm on carrier Vodafone IE in Ireland on a BES server.

Anybody any ideas?
Thanks

The 8830 requires a cdma signal for the built in gps to work. Where did you get the 8830 and what carrier is branded on it?

Got it while I was in the states. It has sprint written on the bottom of it which i assume was the original carrier before I put the vodafone sim card in it...

When I was in the Czech Republic earlier this year with my Verizon 8830 with a Verizon/Vodafone SIM card Googlemaps did not work. I don't know if GoogleMaps works with GSM in Europe. It also did not work in Amsterdam while in the airport.

It's weire bacause my friend has a BB and the GPS didn't work here and then he went to the states and it worked fine and when he came back it worked fine here as well.

So i figured there must be some sort of activation or some kind of settings that have to be set for it to work over here.....

Upgrade to Sprint's latest software for the device and your problem's should be solved.
