Exclamation White Screen Of Death !

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, Im new to this and I have a problem with my blackberry 8520,the problems is there is a white blank screen at all times altough I still hear noises when I press buttons.

What I have tried:
I have ordered a new screen off ebay and replaced it but still the white screen shows (indicating it is not the screen).

I have update the phone to the latest software ( No change still same problem)

Battery Pull ( Didnt work still same problem )

I am out of ideas and losing hope, is there anybody out there who can please help or direct me. Thank you

You did not indicate what might have led up to the problem. At this point it looks like you will need a replacment.

Not that I know of or remember dropping it or gettting wet, altough someone did mention to me that it might be water damage and the phone may need cleaning, but I doubt it is.

Another theory someone suggested to me was that the phone may be water damaged and the motherboard may need to be cleaned or dried. what is the best possible way of drying the 8520, He suggeted putting the phone on a radiator

Guy´s it definately the screen. I wiped the phone with JL_cmder reinstalled the software without luck. On JL_cmder if I take a screenshot the phone looks normal, but the LCD on the display is still white. Some people have had luck loosening the LCD screws, but you will have to dismantle.

Sorry Byatt, think you need to Ebay a new LCD!

Perhaps the connection was damaged...moisture perhaps? Is it humid where you live?

Sounds stupid I know, but once an old Nokia I had went with my to a pool (someone pushed me). Solution to bring it back to life: take battery out, and all you can disassemble, open a jar or wherever you have rice and place all the components in. Supposedly speaking, the rice absorbs humidity. That Nokia served me for another 6 months before I changed it with a newer phone...might be worth trying if there is nothing else to do with it.

You sure you didn't hit it with anything? I mean, the BB shell is VERY rugged...mine has fell quite some times and it is still scratch-less and still running like nothing.

Hi guys, I have a shop here in NY and fix about 15-20 BB LCds per day. Ever since 6 month ago I started recieving 8520s with the White screen issue. In the beggining I thought that the LCd is unique for the 8520. Then one time I replaced one for a customer with the Broken LCD with a 83XX LCD and it worked fine. So I know now that the 83XX lcds are compatible with 8520. But as for the white screen I have even replaced the LCD from a brand new 8520 to a white screen one and it does not work. I have tried this on at least 20 of them so far. Nothing works. They all have absolutely no water damage or physical damage of any kind. At this point I am led to believe that it is a resistor or a circuit that goes bad and it is probably a flaw in the 8520. I hope I am wrong and somebody will soon post a solution so that I can repair the 8-9 that I have sitting here

Also the LCds that I have tested had the label 11059-007/111 printed in the back. But some of the other 8520s do not have anything labeled in the back. I have not been able to get this type of LCD yet And do not know for a fact that if the label in the back is blank means its the same or different from the 007/111 type. As soon as I test a blank label LCD I will post results

Default same here...

Hi guys.. I have the same problem with the white screen.. I dropped my bb 8900 curve down and the screen was broken.. i knew that the phone was still functioning because i could see from some little parts of the screen.. So, I purchased a new screen from ebay (same p/n 002/111) and I replaced it.. Then I put on the battery... after a few seconds with the red light, my screen went white... I did a lot of research.. but nothing works.. Although i replaced the screen a week later my battery wasn't discharged and I tried all type of reset..I cannot reinstall os because desktop manager tells me that i am up to date... Any idea? my carrier is cosmote (Greece) and I guess after replacing the screen I cannot claim warranty...
p.s. I hope that by the time someone has found the solution...

Hey, The 8900 uses 2 different LCds. Do you still have your OLD LCD?? Check to see if it was the 002/111 or the 003/111. Make sure you purchased and installed the correct model

Ok, here is the deal. There are 2 types of LCDs for the 8520: 007/111 & 005/004. If yours is the same as the 007/111 then obviously you have to buy the same. But if you have the other version then you can buy the one for the 83XX series. BUT make sure you are buying the one labeled 005/004 and not the one labeled 001/004 (for the 83XX version)
