i'm on play as you go with orange but everyone keeps saying i need a data plan to get blackberry messenger and also internet and an email address. Who do I phone, what's the number and what do I ask for?

You need to call your service provider (Orange) and have them add the BlackBerry Internet Service Data Plan/Bolt On to your account if you want to use BlackBerry Data Features such as BlackBerry Messenger, BlackBerry Browser and push email.
