I wanted know how hard is it to convert CDMS, iDEN, phone to GSM? because I am traveling to another country, and I am thinking of getting my CDMA phones converted to GSM. I don't know, if that been done in USA. but I am sure people in other countries do it.

It is not possible. They are completely different hardware types. You would be better off buying a cheap GSM phone in whatever country you are traveling to, IMO.

Ebay or look at a Blackberry 8800 series, where you can add a SIM card also.

I thought they use some hacking software to make GSM? so they manually open the phone and make GSM?

I do have GSM unlocked, but I also have many BB CDMA, iDEN, phones which I was hoping to make use out of it. I guess, i m going sell as it is.

What about Sprint BB 8830 (GSM, and CDMA), I know its different Freq? is it easy to change freq. to make it work in USA.

thanks!!

Can't be done. The radio operates on different frequency bands and therefore can't be changed. I have never heard of any such "hack" for a BB. Why do you think businesses and government rely on them?

The 8830 only has GSM 900/1800. You cannot change GSM bands. It's fixed hardware. The only CDMA BlackBerry that will work on a US GSM network is the Storm 9530.

And that is only because the Storm has a GSM radio within it, not because the CDMA will run on the GSM networks.

No amount of software can replace GSM hardware. It's like trying to use "hacking software" to add WiFi or Bluetooth to a PC that doesn't have the necessary hardware. It isn't going to happen. You need to switch to a GSM BB.
