Blackberry Branded 655 Headset
Please Login to Remove!
Great news for those of us who tried the Plantronics 655 headset but were frustrated with the delay. My RIM rep was by today and he had the Blackberry branded 655 so I tried it out and no delay at all! It would connect the call right away, very impressed!

So, there is a difference between the Blackberry HS655 and the Plantronics 655? There is about a $40 difference in price so I was going to order the Plantronics version.

I have now used the Blackberry Branded 655, it works perfectly, no issues at all, great volume, great clarity, and zero delay!

I actually have one and have tested it with my 8700 and a 7105t. My 8100 should be here today.
Every model I tested the Plantronics headset with had the delay, but with the Blackberry branded one, I have zero delay at all. I am loving this headset, kudo's to the guys at RIM

drgoodtymes, Thank you very much for the information on this new BT headset. Would you comment on the headsets ability to cancel out background noise. I have the Plantronics 645 and I find it closes the mic when I am not talking then opens when I talk but does not cancel out the background noise when I am speaking. thank you.

rjhouck,
the feedback that I get from people is, that they can still hear background noise, but my voice comes through loud and clear, and they don't have a problem making it out over the background noise. I left myself a few voicemail messages with it and was very clear.
I believe the 645, 655, and the RIM branded one all have the same DSP chipset.

So, stupid question... why the delay in the release date? When the Pearl came was coming out I noticed that the release date for the HS 655 was 9/22. Then on 9/21 I noticed they pushed it out to 10/2, now I see 10/12. Any of you have the inside scoop? Sort of frustrating to be late for buying something I'll still be frustrated with! = )

I am guessing its a delay from the manufacture. That is where they usually come into play, I have an inside scoop on things at RIM as a business connection from my store, so I was able get a pre-release of the headset. Most companies won't make a product availible until they have an ample supply to sell, so my guess is, who ever is mass producing the headset and other accessories for RIM, is falling behind.

son of a B*$%# , i just bought a 655 on ebay 2 weeks ago and its not something i can just return to get this new one... i have experienced the delay and its driving me nuts, sometimes i wait 2-3 seconds and i keep saying hello till they finally answer...
is the HS-655 a product that Plantronics is going to carry eventually or is it a diff company.. might be able to pay the diff to plantronics if they let me upgrade

I don't think Plantronics themselves will be selling this model. It had modifications done by RIM engineers.

Goodtymes,
Did you try it with the 8703e? It's not listed as a compatable device with the HS 655 on the BB website....... is there anyway you can give it a try if you have one at your store?

I lost my Jabra BT800 headset about 2 weeks ago (I know, how can you misplace something that huge?) after having it for about a year. Now I have to get a replacement. One thing I hated about the BT800 with the original firmware was the delay in answering. Jabra updated the firmware and it worked BEAUTIFULLY with my 8700g, picked up calls instantaneously.
I guess that I'll have to wait for the BB branded 655 now to replace it.
