zen theme
Please Login to Remove!
hello, i have been browsing this site for a couple weeks now and i am still confused. i have never owned a blackberry and i am set to receive the tmo 8700g monday. i really want the zen theme when i get it. could anyone tell me exactly what i would have to do to get it on my device. i dont want to install another os like the bharti, i just want the zen theme. i am not going to attempt to mess anything up by downloading a new os when i just paid $300. If its not possible without getting a new os thats fine just let me know and i will find another theme. could someone please explain it to me like an idiot, because when it comes to blackberry i am. thanks...
And by the way please dont post links or tell me to use the search because i have read the links and used the search....thanks again

You don't need another OS, you simply need to modify some code. It's not hard, but it sounds like it is not a task you would desire to undertake.

The instructions in this thread by Seattle18 should have you covered.

If you read the thread, Seattle says to skip to step 9 if you don't need the download.
kthxbye.

Here is what you want, I think:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=28821
If your OS has the theme, but it's just locked up, then this should do the trick. Can you find the .cod file in the directory with your current os?

No problem. Seattle probably meant to say Bharti or above. He is extremely sharp.

Not to drag this out but... I guess I am dragging it out. Bharti problems have been few and far between. I have it installed it and it is simply perfect: fast, loud and overflowing with unnecessary but funky themes. What more could you ask for?

This zen theme is MUSt HAVE.. I was hiding som many icons because I always use shortcut keys for most of my programs and if there is not shortcut then I usually dont use that program at all except Google map, 411 Search etc.. so this makes my life really cool
Thanks

Am I nuts? No ALX File?
I...um...feel really stupid asking this question. I wish to modify my .ALX file (I have a TMo 8700g with the .284 software) and...well...there is no blackberry.alx file anywhere on my computer. I was following the instructions from this thread:
blackberryforums.com/showpost.php?p=184770&postcount=6
And when it told me to find the file...well...it's not there. I mean, the post says, "if you can't find the Zen theme in your ALX file..." but I don't even HAVE an ALX file.
What book did I forget to read?

Won't find it if you have not downloaded and installed the OS on your PC.

Okay...I sort of assumed that the OS was already on the BB. You're telling me I have to load the OS on the PC first?

This gets us back to the original poster's question. If we don't want to download bharti, and we cannot download the Tmobile current OS (i don't see it on the site) then how can we have an .alx file to edit?
EDIT: I found Jibi's thread on where to download the Tmo OS. Now it all makes sense. http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=32181

Mine shipped with .284, and it's loading the Zen theme right this minute once I followed the instructions - (stupid me.)
TMo did verify for me that .284 is the latest and greatest that THEY support right now.
