You need a program such as eOffice from Dynoplex to open/edit Word or Excel files.

O/T: maliks, you should consider editing your sig to remove your email address. Not wise to post it in public forum like this. I believe spammers have a way of scanning and slurping addresses even in a place like BBF.

Word and Excel files can be opened without any additional software as long as you have a blackberry data plan

text files i dont think can be opened natively, perhaps with eFile from Dynoplex or Beamberry. .doc files will open in an email

Try a hard reset. Resend service books, maybe (though I'm not sure it will do anything on this). There is no reason you shouldn't be able to open a doc file email attachment.

My understanding is as follows:

A plain text only (Notepad file).txt can be saved to the Media Card and opened by exploring to it.

Via email:

DOC, XLS and PDF plus various graphics files.

maliks never stated via email I think he is trying to just open a DOC file from the Media Card which would require a third party app.

I have the same problem. It happens when someone has sent me a doc file(not docx) that was created with Office 2007 (File -> Save AS -> Office 2000-2003 Document). Doc files created with Office 2003 works fine. Wondering if there are some headers that the Office 2007 puts in that the Blackberry doesn't recognize. Looking for a solution. Is this your problem?

This is a known issue depending on the the version of BES you use.

4.1.4 should have this issue resolved as well as the docx working
