Default Purpose of filing messages?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey gang,

I have a usage question for you. I suspect many use their BB similar to the way I use mine - I use it to keep on top of incoming emails while away from my desk (and so I can respond to urgent ones), but still use my main desktop email client for responding to non-urgent emails, long-term storage and archiving of emails, etc.

So as a result, I only keep a few days' worth of email on my BB. Having said that, what would be some reasons for using the filing feature on my 7100? I don't see the point, since with v3.8 and non-BES, I can't synchronize filed messages back to my desktop.

Thanks in advance - just want to get the most out of this cool toy/tool!

You're probably right about filing for non-BES users... I delete email as soon as I deal with it... i Hate having a poluted inbox!

AFAIK filed messages don't even synchronize. e.g. if you reset your BlackBerry or get a new one, and reconsile the email, you don't get your filed messages restored!

It is nice however to file things into folders instead of just 'saved messages', because sometimes I'll get a little something I'll want to keep around but don't neccessarily want it in Saved Messages with my current "todo emails".

Okay - sounds good. I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing out on something i didn't think about. I guess I might see a need to save some registration codes or something for a while, or other things I might need to refer to remotely.

Thanks.

I assumed (for no particular reason) that if I filed a message, it would be saved on the handheld even past the dropoff date (mine is set for 90 days.) So, at least for now, I am using it to save messages that have important data that I neet to keep beyond that 90 dy mark. For instance - flight itinerary confirmation emails.

You could just save the message into Saved Messages for that, too.
