Default 8100 - Can't reboot - any advice?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi and thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I have an old 8100 which has never had a firmware update. Occasionally in the past when I have plugged the charger into it it has frozen and needed rebooting. When this happens, occasionally I have had to re-insert the battery a couple of times as I have got a battery icon with a red line through it on the screen.

This morning the same thing happened, but I have now re-inserted the battery over a hundred times, but I just get the battery with red line icon and the BB won't reboot. I know it isn't the battery itself because I have checked it in my wife's 8220 and the battery boots that up no problem and is fully charged.

Does anyone know why this has happened, and does anyone how to sort it out? Is it terminal??

Thanks again

Wirelessly posted (8520 (5.0.0.411))

What if you try your wife's 8220 battery in yours? To me it sounds like a battery issue.

Hi

Thanks for that, I am going to try that, but just charging her battery up fully before I give it a go. The annoying thing is that I am due an upgrade phone in the next 2 weeks, so hope I can somehow keep this going until then!

Regards

You might also take a look at the contacts on both the blackberry and battery. Make sure they are more or less clean and shiny, and that they seem to be pressing together when the battery is inserted. I've never personally had a problem, but seems others have experienced bad connections between blackberry and battery because of dirty/corroded contacts or loose battery.

Hi

Sadly the swapping battery experiment didn't work, same dead battery icon with my wife's good 8220 battery, so clearly it isnt a battery problem. I've checked the connectors on both phone and battery and there's no corrosion. Any other ideas as to what the problem might be?

Thanks

Try to reload device software
1. make back up
2.download device software from carrier website BlackBerry - BlackBerry Desktop and Device Software Download Sites
3. Open http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/docum...rnalID=KB11320

Hi

Unfortunately I can't back up the device in its' current mode as my PC doesn't recognise it as connected in BB desktop manager. Not sure therefore how I can download the device software to it?

Thanks again
