Default 8700c -> Chinese

Is there a Chinese language pack available for the handheld?
If so, does the BES need any special packs?

Thanks

In case anyone is interested...here is what I found...

From all the sources I checked (RIM, Cingular, CSL HK and 3rd party vendors), there is currently no Chinese handheld software available for the 8700.

News to me and maybe some other interested parties...

In the Tsupport -> Asia Pacific download section, CSL HK has released HH 4.1 (Chinese) for the 8700g.

Now, how the heck do I install it on a 8700c...I assume it's in Chinese?!
My interested user is completely wireless...no BDM.

Does anyone have experience supporting handhelds in multiple languages?
If so, could you please share your experience and useful info...handheld & BES.

Thanks

You install it exactly the same as any other software, delete the vendor.xml. The device will boot up in english and you can change the stuff around in the options.

For example Hong Kong CSL's 7100 and 7290 software that everyone's been loading has chinese and other asian languages in the install box, you just uncheck them when installing. In this case, you'll check the boxes.

stonent - I loaded the CSL HK software...very easy. Now, I need to find someone to test it.
In your experience, have you seen any issues with a handheld or BES using Chinese?

Thanks

Hi cschrage:

Have you confirmed whether or not Chinese displays correctly on your BB since the install? I am currently unable to display Chinese characters on my BB, and I am running the T-Mobile 8700g with software version 4.1.0.284

You need to load the CSL version of the OS (and select the chinese fonts) to display chinese..

Thanks Patrickh

Any known "gotchas" installing another carrier's software release? Will I lose any features because of this upgrade? Will the ALX file needing to be re-edited to make sure I still have the Zen theme, etc.?

Ok, so before taking the plunge and installing the CSL OS, I thought I'd test some more with my current OS verison. Looks like I can view a limited amount of Chinese characters on my BB - does this make sense? Some characters display properly, while others just show up as black boxes! Anybody else have the same experience?

Default Installing Chinese Language in 8700c

I read the posts that I found about the chinese language for 8700c and I don't know how to install the language pack correctly.

Can someone help me?

So am I suppose to grab the 8700g on the Blackberry software download site? Is that the one that says Starhub?
Or should I go to the HongKong CSL website and grab their 8700g software?

I'm really confused.

Thanks.

Get the HKCSL software. The link is in the FAQ/Sticky. You need to delete the vendor.xml as described in the FAQ also.

READ THE FAQ!

@kenneth yap,
Never browsed any Chinese websites so can't help you. You might give Opera Mini (3rd party web browser) a try, though. Just search for "Opera" and you'll find lots of info about it.

BTW, since this thread was bumped....

A Chinese version of 4.2.1 is availble for the 8700. See the sticky thread in the 8700 forum.
