Default AIM through SMS

Please Login to Remove!

For the last 6 months, I have been using the capability of AIM to send IM's as normal SMS text messages. However, recently, at about 6 AM, this capability ceased working.

After turning my blackberry on and off repeatedly, and starting a new AIM account to test if it was just AIM, I am still unable to receive IM's as SMS text messages. I have no desire to pay exorbitant fees every month for data plans just to IM from my phone when I've had that capability already.

Can anyone tell me if there's some easy fix, or do I need to go out and buy a different kind of phone?

AIM is a data based service, not SMS.

There was an old app named Oz, that used SMS to transmit AIM instant messages. I don't know what happened recently, but... you'll need to find an AIM application that still uses SMS. Oz could still be around.

Aim allowed the transmission of IM's through SMS text; You could IM a person's phone number directly and it would be treated as an IM. It's still working, for everyone's phone other than mine. I'm not sure why mine won't work.

Have you tried Ramble IM? It works on AIM without cost to your messaging. I have it on my 8220.
