Unhappy Wifi Works, Just not at home - 8320

Please Login to Remove!

Hello, Yes I'm a New Blackberry User.

I'm pretty happy with my Curve. I just have a issue with getting a wifi connection in my house. I called Tmobile to see if I had an issue with my blackberry because I kept receiving a Error W0101. I can Scan and Detect My Wifi Home Router [Which is a belkin router] but I am not able to connect to it and the Error W0101 Message appears. I was told by the Wifi Tech to try going to starbucks and seeing if it would work. So I went to Starbucks on 57th street and it connected and then I also went to The starbucks in Trump Towers and it also connected within 10 seconds. I tried messing around with my routers configuration to see if it was something wrong with my router but everything seems fine with it.

Has anyone else been having Wifi connection problems with Belkin routers?

I agree....I had a NetGear a few years back and had issues with my company's VPN. Switched to Linksys and haven't had a problem since. It even setup very nice for the UMA I'm now using.

I'm going to buy a router in 2 days.

I have 2 belkin routers used with my 8320 in 2 different locations. The stock firmware always gave me fits with UMA so I loaded dd-wrt instead. Long story short, made life much better with UMA and added benefit of no more manual power cycles on them!

I think your best bet would be to try out the dd-wrt firmware on your router.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/wifi...uma-curve.html

There's a thread where it's being discussed and I took a quick look on the net and it appears people have had good luck loading dd-wrt and openwrt on your model of router. One caveat that I did notice is that some people had problems with it when using PPPoE connections, and there is a fix or workaround for that as well.

If your not comfortable attempting that, and haven't had luck getting the 8320 to connect after trying some recommended settings on this board, I'd say just watch for a good sale or get a t-mobile branded access point.

What kind of Belkin Router do you have? Is it on the list of supported routers at dd-wrt? What version of dd-wrt did you load?

Did you try doing a settings clear? May want to grab the micro or mini version of the firmware and do a tftp load by digging around for an app that will continually try to upload it into the router while power cycling it.

Hopefully it didn't completely brick it and a factory reset will bring it back to life easily. You've tried holding down the reset button without the power plugged in, then continuing to hold it for 15-20 seconds?

Talking new router

I had a Belkin - N router. Basically, i went to the website and downloaded the dd-wrt Micro Generic V24 firmware. i plugged up my xp computer to my router and changed the computers IP address to 192.168.2.2 and change the dns to 255.255.255.0 then tftp the Micro generic V24 firmaware and then I power cycled the router. when it came back on it seem pretty normal. I plugged all of the cords back on how i had it before and i checked all my computers and noticed the wireless connection said limited or no connectivity. I plugged my vista computer into the router and the samething occured. I tried to go to the new firmware browser but it didnt work. 192.168.02 was the address the instruction said to go to the web interface. Anyway i got tired of playing around with the Belkin router so I just went out and bout a lynksis router and my wifi connection picked up in 2 seconds with UMA. Im very happy because the calls over UMA are very clear and I never had a dropped call yet. I'm going to test it out with bluetooth now.

I'd try giving the belkin router a reset or two before I threw it away just yet. Sometimes after loading the new firmware it won't load properly until a reset has been performed.

Just try holding the reset button in with a paperclip while powering it on, hold it for 15-20 seconds or so and watch the lights on it. You should notice them cycle a few times and then it will be reset.

Glad to hear you got your problem solved with a new router though!
