Default BBAlerts Help

Please Login to Remove!

I am on a trial with this software. I really like alerts not disappearing! But is there a way to have the alert profiles different? I had calls vibrate, all others silent. Now, when you go to BBAlerts profile, it seems like it is for all, and emails come in vibrate which is a nuisance to me. Is there a way to restore silent for all except calls, so I can use LED colors as my primary way to know texts, emails, etc. have come in?

Okay, what I want is vibrate for calls, silence for the rest. Ideally, I would like my blackberry.com email to vibrate too, but everything else just LED and silence. I can go into Phone Only, but is that what I leave the profile on with these selections? I did have my profile on vibrate, but changed each option WITHIN Vibrate. Does that not work with BBAlerts? thanks.

Sorry to be so obtuse.....I guess I don't understand profiles well, at least I thought I did till now. BBAlerts is listed on top of the editable options in each profile. If I click on BBAlerts, I tell it what alerts will do WITHIN that profile? So for example, within Vibrate Profile, I tell BBAlerts now to do NONE, meaning only LED, but phone WITHIN vibrate profile is set to vibrate. Is that going to do it? Only phone will vibrate? But will bbalerts still keep the LED going on for missed call with this setting?

I cant help you with BB alerts I know nothing about it. I am talking about BB profiles only.

these are profiles that you can set up on the device straight out of the box. go to profiles open it select one you want to customize and set each thing up separately. Like browser set tone or vibrate or none.

Thanks. The problem is figuring out how to integrate BB Alerts into this. Perhaps someone with BBAlerts experience will read this.

Perhaps it'd be easier to think of the Profiles settings and BB Alerts in this way:

All your INITIAL notifications (incoming phone call, new email, new text message, etc.) are handled by your Profile settings.

Your REMINDER notifications are handled by Blackberry Alerts.

I think that if you think of it in this way, it becomes easier to know how to adjust your settings.

HOWEVER, that said, I do anticipate that BB Alerts cannot do what you want it to do: selectively turn off vibrate for one type of notification (remember, it's handling the reminder part) but not the other.

The closest I can come to what you want is this:

In Blackberry Alerts' Options, set your LED colours etc., as desired. Have 'Vibrate on Alert' unticked. Ensure schedule is set for Alert Always.

In Profiles, (e.g. Normal), set every tone setting (e.g. Tone, Vibrate + Tone, etc. for both Out of Holster and In Holster) to NONE, EXCEPT Phone. Set that to Tone or Tone + Vibrate, or whatever you desire. Next, also within that same Profile, your Blackberry Alerts profile setting should also be NONE for both Out of Holster and In Holster.

The test: a new email/sms should make no sound nor vibrate (initial notification), nor should the reminder make a tone or vibrate (reminder notification). A new phone call SHOULD make a sound and/or vibrate or both (initial notification)... BUT the reminder notification should not make a tone or vibrate. It will still flash the LED to the colour you specified.

If I read what you want to do correctly, *if* you wanted the reminder notification for the phone call to vibrate or make a tone, then I don't think you can, because BB Alert's setting within the Normal Profile (the example we used) cannot vibrate as a reminder because we set vibrate off for all the other reminders (it's all or none).

Now, if you're REALLY determined to get it to work, I believe you can, with a combination of the above settings, plus custom ring tones (by individual contact), exceptions and possibly custom profiles. But I think the scenario given above should suffice except for the fact that you won't be reminded by vibrate for MISSED phone calls. You will still have a missed call popup box and a missed calls mini-icon in the banner area, but if you missed the initial vibrate notification, I don't think BB Alerts can vibrate a reminder notification for that call.

The concept of initial vs reminder makes sense. I think I have it configured. In my Vibrate profile, I told BB Alerts to do NONE except LED. That way it doesn't keep going on me except for lights. But I can still get one email, and text to vibrate on initial, but NOT on reminders, just different LED colors. Seems to work great. thanks.

Dawg, I appreciate the help. What I found I couldn't do without BBAlerts was know I had a message. I usually wear the phone; now I can simply look at it to see if I have an email, or whatever. The other way, the BB red alert would go away and I had to pull the phone out to always check.

Can you be more specific? First, I assume the icon is on your BB. Click it, and open the program. You should options for setting LED colors for different alert scenarios. After you explore those options, you need to go to your profiles, like Normal, Loud, Vibrate, Silent etc. In being more specific, what do you want to accomplish with the program?
You need to determine:
1. Alerts for which event?
2. Sound, vibrate, or LED only?
3. In and out of holster for above
4. If vibrate/sound, do you want it to repeat every how often till you check it?

Default BBAlerts--Idle Alert?

Any BBAlert experts know what Idle Alert means as an alert option? When would that alert happen (what does it mean by idle)? thanks.

Idle Alert was something that a few of us requested (myself included) where seeing the LED flash would be an assurance of sorts that BlackBerry Alerts was active. When there is no specific alert (missed phone call, new email/sms, etc.), then the LED could flash a certain colour which told you that... well, that there was nothing new for you.

Now, one might say that "hey, no LED = no alert, silly!". Well, that's true, but then we'd wonder if BB Alerts crashed, failed to start up, I accidentally closed it, or it had a java exception error, etc., and one couldn't tell at a glance that BB Alerts wasn't running because the screen was black.

Since I'm not in a fringe coverage area, I had no use for the Coverage LED indicator; so I use the idle alert setting to flash slowly instead, telling me I have no new notifications... unless I see one of the notification colours that I set instead.

Thanks for the explanation. The default seems to be blue for Idle Alert. But I don't have a blue blinking light continually. I also don't see a way to turn it off (which might mean there is a way to turn it on??). thanks again.

Why does my BBAlert (missed calls/voicemail) still beeps when I have the profile set to vibrate? I have played around with different functions, but I can't get it to stop beeping (alerting me) in the vibrate mode. What am I not doing.

Have you set the Profile entry for Blackberry Alerts in each of your profiles (Normal, Vibrate, etc.)? It should be the first line in each profile. Set your Out of Holster and In Holster alerts to NONE, or volume to MUTE. Either one should work.

Are you saying go into my profiles on my BB or go into the BBAlert setup? I don't see the words Blackberry Alerts listed in my profiles on my BB. I always went into BBAlerts/ options to do whatever. Maybe I'm no understanding.

I had meant going into your Profiles on your BB. So for example, to edit your 'Vibrate' profile, you would go to Profiles, Advanced (bottom one under 'Off') and select 'Vibrate' again. In my 'Vibrate' profile, I see BB Alerts, Browser, Calendar, Level 1 Messages, Messages[name@carrier.blackberry.net], Messages[name@domain.com], etc. The first one is BB Alerts, that's where to edit the reminder notification settings. (BTW, no insult intended on these instruction steps).

If the BB Alerts line entry is not listed, perhaps a reinstall is needed although I can't imagine why it would not be there since you have the app installed and working for the most part.
